I lost my web site

When I installed Zen Cart I installed it into /public_html/photos. I want to change it to /public_html/store. So I renamed the folder to "store". Now, instead of the URL reading http://early1900photos.com/photos/ it should read http://early1900photos.com/store. I thought this would be the end of the story but I was not able to enter my store until I changed the URL and the folder bach to "photos".
What am I missing? Is this something that needs to be done through admin?

Re: I lost my web site

I went to sessions and changed /home/bwphoto/public_html/photos/cache to /home/bwphoto/public_html/store/cache. I then changed the /public_html/photos folder to /public_html/store. Then I entered the URL http://early1900photos.com/store. The result was a page that started out with this...
"Hello. Thank you for loading Zen Cart™.
You are seeing this page for one or more reasons:

  1. This is your first time using Zen Cart™ and you haven't yet completed the normal Installation procedure."

Then I realized that I did not perform the file edit mentioned in step 5. I do not understand what to enter into the files.

Apparently I don't get it:no:

Re: I lost my web site

did you complete step 4? you may need to check that the config files did actually change as these are set not to be overwritten

Re: I lost my web site

Ok, I am almost ready and able to perform the task, but I have a question or 2.

I understand about changing permissions. If I understand correctly, in the above website... https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=122 ...I would perform steps 1-4. 5 is not nessessary unless I can not do it with 1-4. Correct?

But I would actually perform step 4 first, or do it matter the order?

As for the editing...I looked at the /includes/configure.php file and I saw that it contains the same lines that are included in the tutorial (step 4). So I do not understand what I should edit.

Sorry for my slowness. Please bare with me. This is actually starting to become a little clearer as I go on.

EDIT::
In fact, here is my /includes/configure.php file. Please point out what I should change.

Re: I lost my web site

  1. For security reasons database and password details
    should NOT be posted on forum
  2. If your zencart is in a folder i.e.your domain.com/shop
    then configure file you have posted is incorrect at
define('HTTP_SERVER', 'http://early1900photos.com/');
define('HTTPS_SERVER', 'https://early1900photos.com/');
define('HTTP_CATALOG_SERVER', 'http://early1900photos.com/');
define('HTTPS_CATALOG_SERVER', 'https://early1900photos.com/');

Re: I lost my web site

My site is currently installed in "photos". My URL is http://early1900photos.com/photos/. It is operating as sure right now. I see nothing in the code you quoted as containing "photos".

My goal is to move the site so my URL will be http://early1900photos.com/shop

Re: I lost my web site

No configuration in file you posted shows that your store is currently in folder named /photos

define('DIR_WS_CATALOG', '/shop/');
define('DIR_WS_HTTPS_CATALOG', '/shop/');

would be configuration for zencart to be in shop folder

Re: I lost my web site

I have /public_html/. This directory contains /manage, /photos, /.htaccess and /error_log.

So, is Zen Cart installed in /public_html/ or is it is photos?
Sorry for the confusion. I once installed it under /public_html/photos but then when I reinstalled, I do not remember if I did the same thing or did it differently.

Re: I lost my web site

its in the sub directory 'photos' http://early1900photos.com/photos/

can I make a suggestion ?

ask your host to move Zen Cart to the public_html directory. Then all that needs to be typed in browser window is 'early1900photos.com' rather than 'early1900photos.com/photos/'
thats a routine way of setup for website.

Re: I lost my web site

Thats a good idea. I will do that. That is the way I wanted it from the beginning. Right now the basic domain https://www.blablah.com contains just a list...photos and manage. What is its purpose as it is and if I move my site there what will happen to them?

Host Gator chat said that if I move my site to a different directory my link will break.

Re: I lost my web site

you want it so when someone types in browser " early1900photos.com ' it goes to your site. tell them its broken the way it is now . having to type "early1900photos.com/photos"
they should understand.
all content moves to new location which is up one directory level on the server to the "public_html' folder which is root.
you have to edit the two config. files to match the new location path that's all.Database is same

// Define the webserver and path parameters

just work your way down the configure.php files

well... tell them exactly what the problem is and then they should understand fully.

you want all contents of the 'photos' folder moved to the 'public_html' folder but not the photos folder itself. it can be deleted afterwards.

Re: I lost my web site

I talked to HG chat today. Real nice person tried to move my files for me. Could not do it without the links breaking. So, I'll just tear it down and start again. Nothing to lose but incompetence :smartalec:

Yah, and I gotta say, I am getting real good at setting it up. But don't be discouraged, I will have more questions :lamo:
