Zen Cart suitable for a very large mp3 store

Hi All,

I need to configure an ecommerce site for a client that will be selling a large number of mp3 downloads (close to 1,000). I know Zen Cart can handle downloadable products, but I'm concerned with the administrative task of defining all of the products. Is there any add-on that allows all of the downloadable product details to be entered offline outside of the admin panel and then imported? I come from the OSC world and there is the EasyPopulate contribution there, but it doesn't handle the file download attributes. I see it is also available here as an add-on, but I have to assume its the same scenario.

I did a few searches here and nothing came up when looking for various 'mp3 & downloads' keywords. So if anyone has any suggestions on something that would greatly simplify the inputting of all of this data I would appreciate it. I'm willing to make the switch over to Zen Cart if there's a way to do this.

Thanks,
CJ

Easy populate has the same limitations as ZenCart is a "Fork" of OSC

I have not used it but others are using Apsona also available as a 3rd party download that you might have a look at

Re: Zen Cart suitable for a very large mp3 store

Thanks Kobra,

I did see some posts on Apsona last night and took a look at their website. It seems like it has a similar functionality as Easy Populate, but actually does a lot more offline processing of the data for reports, etc. It wasn't clear if it had the ability to handle downloadable filename attributes in its data importing/exporting process. I sent a support question at their forum regarding that and am awaiting a reply.

I'll post back when I find out whether or not it will handle that.

Regards,
CJ

Re: Zen Cart suitable for a very large mp3 store

Ok, looks like good news. I've had a few email exchanges with the developer. So ShopAdmin can handle the downloadable filename attribute, but it does it separately from the main product data. In my case if I want to create all of my product items and downloadable items in Excel I would need to do 2 imports; first import the product data into the products area of ShopAdmin, then import the product attribute data into the product attribute area. Of course the Product ID field ties the two together. I'm actually going to continue working with this in OSC since that's what I'm most familiar with, but I wanted to post back here so that others can see that this should be a viable method.
