Linked product but different product description?

Is it possible to link two products (in two different categories or the same category) but have different product descriptions?
So far I haven't found any contributions that can do that.

The reason is that I have one product which is sold under the same model number but has slightly different descriptions. I would like this product to update the stock quantity regardles of which of the product descriptions the customer purchase from.

One way to do this would be to put both descriptions into the textarea, each wrapped in a div with an id. Then use per-category stylesheets to show and hide the two divs appropriately.

#prod23version2 {display: block;}

Note that you couldn't do this with two products in the same category, as one product id will not be displayed twice in one category. (You can't link a product to the same category it is already in.)

It just occurred to me that this will work automatically for the product info page, but product listings strip out HTML. There are plenty of threads describing how to enable HTML for listings; search for zen_clean_html.
