How can I transfer my Zen Cart directories system to my pc?

Instead of going to the trouble of copying individual files from Zeb Cart to a word processor and then saving onto my pc so I can edit them, is it possible to copy all of my Zen Cart directories (or my Host Gator file system) to my pc?

Host gator give you the power of a cpanel..
https://www.yourwebsite.com/cpanel
Log into the panel and click the folder called backup..
This will allow you to make a copy of all your zen cart files to your pc..

Better yet, just use your FTP program and copy your public_html folder to your PC, and then use Notepad++ (http://notepad-plus.sf.net) to do your editing, and your FTP program to upload the changes. DO NOT USE A TYPICAL WORD PROCESSOR to edit PHP files!!!!!!!!!!! (It'll usually mangle them.)

Re: How can I transfer my Zen Cart directories system to my pc?

It did not occur to use the files in my backup  So I tried to open my backup and when I try to open it I get an error "gzip: stdin: unexpected end of file
tar: Unexpected EOF in archive
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now"
So I guess that will not work.

Next I tried to use my FTP program. Using file manager I see no way to copy directories to my pc. Using Legacy File Manager I had better luck but...
I see a backup in Legacy which cannot be moved because of permissions. I changed the permissions and I still get a permission error.
How do I move directories to my pc with FTP?
I have not read your links yet. Will do that next.
Thanks.

Re: How can I transfer my Zen Cart directories system to my pc?

It sounds as though you may be confusing cPanel with your FTP program.

cPanel has a file manager and a legacy file manager. In the file manager you just select a file and click on the download icon or link in the icon ribbon.

It won't let you download folders. For that you would compress them and download the zipped or tarred archive. Sounds like you had some problems with your backup, which you'd need to sort out your end. But this is the normal way of moving sites around so well worth cracking the problem. And you'll find lots of threads from people who've gotten themselves into trouble and regret not having a valid backup.

In a typical FTP program you'd have your local file system in one window and the remote one in the other and just drag files between them.

And just to underline DrByte's advice, don't every edit PHP files with a word processor - they insert extra information and structure into the files that can corrupt your site when loaded back to it.

Re: How can I transfer my Zen Cart directories system to my pc?

My backup seems to be ok because I can restore it and all is fine. It is only when I click on the backup file to open it that I get the error. Does this indicate a problem with the file or what?

You say I am confusing FTP with Cpanel. Isn't the file manager in the Cpanel what I use to move files by FTP? Is my terminology correct?

Do I need to go to Cpanel>FTP accounts and start an account?

My gosh...:shocking:
