Changed according to "Sales Message" tutorial. Didn't work.

I did EXACTLY what https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=127 says to do and all I got for the effort was Sales Message Goes Here in grey replaced with HEADER_SALES_TEXT in black and the default Zen Cart image next to it is now replaced with a broken link icon.

I DID leave the single quotes. I DID NOT make any changes to any part of the header.php files for that image.

All I did was replace the default sales message text with my business name, using notepad in Windows XP.

Re: Changed according to "Sales Message" tutorial. Didn't work.

I downloaded Zen Cart (my site's Hosted on site5 and their setup installs the same version as is current) then edited those files and uploaded them.

Now it works! No idea why, don't see any difference.

Re: Changed according to "Sales Message" tutorial. Didn't work.

I think what's happening here is you don't have your override file for this change setup correctly.. the instructions in that tutorial work, but you might want to first make sure you understand how Zen Cart's overrides work..

See if this helps.. (Taken from here: http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpost.php?p=989297&postcount=6360, but it's TOTALLY relevant to what you are having issues with)

It is more about the basic understanding and operation of Zen Cart. .... before you install any mods or make any customizations, do the following:

Understanding The Override System
The Override System Really Simplified
How Do I Set Up The Template Overrides?

Download This Tool:

Zen Cart employs a file override system to protect some of the files that you make changes to (or are changed for you when you install a mod) in the event of an upgrade. This system also protects your original files in case you make a huge mistake - which you have done here, and which I myself have done on many an occasion <grin>.

It is absolutely crucial that you understand and utilize the override system. Many new zen cart users understand the concept once they read about it, but will often struggle with how to implement and use it. If you encounter this, there are tons of threads on the forum to help you. Having said that, here's a tip to get you started in the right direction, based on your posts/questions above:

On the forum and in mod installation instructions, you will often see reference to "YOUR_CUSTOM_TEMPLATE" OR YOUR_TEMPLATE". This is the general name used to refer to a set of folders that you yourself create and name. Since everyone names them something unique...in order to refer to them globally, they had to be called something that everyone would understand refers to a specific set of folders, so "YOUR_CUSTOM_TEMPLATE" and/or "YOUR_TEMPLATE" was born.

How do you create these folders? What do you name them? Where do you put them? What files do you put in them? What files don't you put in them? Can every file be overridden?

All of these questions and more are answered in the tutorials and tools that I posted above. If you have any questions, please locate the threads addressing the override system and post them there
