Charge shipping only for certain products

Hi guys,

I have setup so when the total order is more than $250 shipping is free.

But, I need to charge shipping only for some products even the total is over $250. THe charging method should change to by KG if it is more than $500.

Can this be done?
If so, how are we to achieve it?:frusty::frusty:

What are you using for the Free Shipping on orders over $250.00?

I am assuming the Modules ... Order Total ... Shipping ot_shipping is being used ...

Do you want the Free Shipping to be the only choice or an Option on the shipping when the order is over $250.00?

When you want to exclude some products from getting the Free Shipping, what is suppose to happen?

What shipping modules are you using?

Is there anything to identify the Products that need to still have shipping?

The more details that you can provide the easier it might be to layout a plan on code changes that would be needed for this ...

Below is the full description.

I have Zen Cart set up for MOST products to ship free when the order total reaches $250. Until the $250 level is reached, shipping is charged unless a product is flagged Free Shipping. Three classes of products are offered: 1) Free Shipping (typically monthly specials) 2) Non-free unless order total is over $250 3) Never shipped free but product price applies toward $250 for other products.

I need the ability within Zen Cart to allow certain products to never ship free, regardless of order total. The never ship free option will be configurable for each product within the product setup screen. The shipping cost for the never ship free items will be based on cost and usually will be shipped via UPS, but may ship via Motor Carrier.

Some examples of order functionality:
--- Already supported in Zen Cart ---

• Visitor purchases $200 of Normal products. Order ships with freight charge.
• Visitor purchases $300 of Normal products. Order ships with Free Shipping.
• Visitor purchases $100 of Normal products and $100 of Free Shipping products ($200). Visitor pays for shipping on the $100 Normal products.
• Visitor purchases $200 of Normal products and $100 of Free Shipping products ($300 total). Order ships with Free Shipping.

--- Desired result from this request ---

• Visitor purchases $100 Normal products, $100 of Free Shipping products, $100 of Never Shipped Free products ($300 total). Visitor would pay shipping on the $100 of Never Shipped Free products only. ($100 Normal products and $100 Free Shipping products ship for free because order total is over $300. Freight would be added (based on weight) for the $100 Never Shipped Free products.)

• Visitor purchases $500 of Normal products and $500 of Never Shipped Free products. Visitor would pay shipping on the $500 of Never Shipped Free products (by weight) while the $500 of Normal products would ship for free because the order total is over $250.

Can you provide me some insight to how to get on with it?

What distinguishes the Products that never apply towards the $250 for Free Shipping?

it is the cost, most of the time.

But in some cases it might change.
So I was assuming adding a small field for each product to have a 0 or 1 to identify if it's to be charged always or not.

This would be the best approach to be able to pull out these Products in some manner to control what Products cannot be applied to the Total to be used for the Free Shipping ...

In this thread, I have a function that can be added to the various files to reduce the Total being used based on products_id in the cart ...

That same function could be adapted to check the Products that have this new flag added ...

All the function reduce_free_shipping() has to do is pass back the amount that should be ignored from the setting on the Modules ... Order Total ... Shipping ot_shipping on the setting:
MODULE_ORDER_TOTAL_SHIPPING_FREE_SHIPPING_OVER

The function is designed to manage any work needed to figure out the amount to be ignored and then that is called from all the places that the:
MODULE_ORDER_TOTAL_SHIPPING_FREE_SHIPPING_OVER

is referenced in the code ...

You can adapt that code to figure out the products_id in the cart that need to be skipped for the calculation ...
