repeating image under tagline - phantom white space

Just starting customizing template at http://74.220.204.53/

My issue - trying to get rid of the white space in the header under the logo and background under tagline.

I added the logo, which includes the pink background as one image. No problem with the white space yet.
Added the repeat-x option for the image under the tagline - it only appeared directly under the tagaline and did not fill up the space so I added a hard break line between each word to spread it to fit the space. But now I"m getting this white space under the full header area. I've tried 0 and auto on the padding and margin with no luck.

Is there a better way to add this image under the tagline than what I'm doing with the repeat-x? Since the width is set at 100%, I need it to grow with the page.

Any ideas?

One way is to edit the stylesheet.css and add this at the bottom..

margin-top: -1.2em;
}

Interesting....that worked. I'll go with that but would still be curious if anyone knew what caused the extra white space. (Of course, now it's gone so you won't be able to see what I'm talking about on my website.)
