cash on Pickup

I am about to go live selling tickets on line. Initially only the PayPal method will be used.

This is a problem for our ticket office as we would also like to sell tickets to wak in customers. We would want to use the shop stock database so we only sell tickets that are still available. This is important because we have multiple ticket offices on our preserved railway, and at special events often have limited seats available.

We dont want drop in customers to have to register, and hope they might have PayPal access.

So I figured use the 'Cash on Pickup' add-on.

I would like to have this work through a 'ticketshop' account so that walk-ins dont have to register. However we dont want people who buy on line to have this payment option.

Does anyone know of any way of only enabling the Cash on Pickup option for one user only?

Or any other ideas - any thoughts appreciated.

Re: cash on Pickup

How will you do this?

I would not expect that a walk in will have a pc with them

Re: cash on Pickup

Using a laptop at the till point in the ticket office, the till operator will use the computer to check ticket availability and 'sell' tickets from the database. Then take payment at the till.
The till operator will be logged in to the shop rather than the customer.

yes I could just have the till operator logged in as admin in one window andbrowser in another window. In the browser check availability and then in admin modify stock level for the choosen ticket
but thats long winded and open to error or misuse.

Actually, setup a customer account for this that the till operator logs into and they can process purchases as that customer for walk ins

You will have to search here for how to make the order status automatically delivered or processing so that stock is reduced

EDIT: can be set as order status in the cod payment module

Re: cash on Pickup

Thanks Cobra - I believe that is what I will need to do - however I dont want everyone to have 'Cash on Collect' option only 'till operator' log in.
I suspect that using 'zones' will do it - but I havent used them before.
One zone for everyone - with Paypal ony
Till Operators members of s special zon whicg has cah on collect only -

Am I correct in my understanding of zones - any pointers appreciated

Re: cash on Pickup

Zones are established by country codes
I do not know what zones you wish to sell in??

If you have only your local area as a zone the the till address can be in any other country and you set a zone for that country

Re: cash on Pickup

There is another way to do this that doesn't involve zones, but it does depend on whether the computers accessing from your till point(s) have fixed IP addresses.

If they DO, then you can add a bit of code to the cod files so that Cash on "Delivery" option only displays if the access is from one of those specific IP addresses.

We have a client doing exactly that for taking phone orders.

Re: cash on Pickup

Since you have to be logged in to checkout, you could setup the Payment method to only work for specific customers_id ...

However, COD is not allowed for Virtual Products ...

Cloning the Payment Module for Check/Money Order moneyorder would be your best bet ...

Then, you can customize your cloned Payment module for:

// bof: only allow customers_id 33 to use
if ($_SESSION['customer_id'] != 33) {
  $this->enabled = false;
}
// eof: only allow customers_id 33 to use

and change the language file ...

Re: cash on Pickup

Thanks Ryk - unfortunately we are using 3G dongles with dynamic IP so that's a non-starter, however - if it could be made to relate to a specific user name instead of IP address that could work.

However I like Zones because payment methods casn be restricted by ZONE (I think - is that correct)
so I can have Till operaters in a zone that only has Cod, and All others in a ZOne that only has PayPal.
Unless anyone knows a way of restricting payment types against specific accounts?

Ajeh - thanks - I'll give that a try.

I tried cloning th CoD module and commenting out the section that disables the module if product is virtual - that didnt work

Re: cash on Pickup

Ajeh - I would appreciate a clarification.

I have cloned the language file, put it in my custom folder and edited the text strings.

I have cloned the module/payment/moneyorder.php file
should I put it in a ustom folder - where does the 'custom' folder sit please?

Where in this file does the code you have suggested go - in the 'update_status()' function?

Re: cash on Pickup

I put the code in update_status() - that worked.
when I put the modified moneyorder.php in modules/payement.
I tried modules/payment/custom but that doesnt seem the correct path:(

Also - it still leaves the alternative payment methods available - I would rather disable those to prevent 'accidents'. Hmmm.

I think Using money order as the method is OK, I will try to get Zoned Payment Method working
Money Order' only for specific Zone used by shop staff log-ins
All other log-ins use different Zone with PayPal only (see http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1024064#post1024064

  • but I am struggling with that)

  • if that doesnt work I'll try this code.

Re: cash on Pickup

The code for the payment modules goes in:
/includes/modules/payment

The language file for the module goes in:
/includes/languages/english/modules/payment

If this was an existing shipping module where there was a language file in:
/includes/languages/english/modules/payment

you could make an override file in:
/includes/languages/english/modules/payment/your_template_dir

but this is a new module with nothing to override ...

Re: cash on Pickup

All working - thanks
I used the cloned Moneyorder module with the userid code patch for till sales.

I used the same code patch for the paypal express module - in the opposite sense so that the till operator only sees the moneyorder payment method and everyone else only sees the paypal payment method

I used low order fee for on-line booking fee as a %.

I added the till operator to a discount group to refund the booking fee when buying in person.

thanks all for the input:clap:
