Image tag for book covers - instead of uploading

Hi, I have an online bookstore using Zen Cart ver 1.3.9, I think. I have a question on using a free book cover service from Library Thing.

They have given me a developer key and I need to place the image tag that is something like this - <img src="http://covers.librarything.com/devkey/KEY/medium/isbn/0545010225"> - instead of uploading the image files.

Where do I place this code, so that the images are shown automatically?

I have hundreds of books and this process has to be automated. The last set of numbers in the image tag is the ISBN number, which I use for the model number field.

I couldn’t find any previous posts on this topic. If there is one, please point me in the right direction.

Thanks so much in advance.

Re: Image tag for book covers - instead of uploading

So the 0545010225 will be different for every book? You probably need to put the individualized <img>tag in the product description. This would not allow it to display in the listing page unless you enable HTML in the listing (a potentially risky step). Getting it into the main image will require significant coding, if even possible - Zen Cart is not configured to use product images from external sources.

That's correct. They are unique numbers, as in the model number field.

Looks like I have to resort to uploading the images. Thanks for your reply.

Re: Image tag for book covers - instead of uploading

Actually, since the images are strictly corresponding to the ISBN/model number, you could write some simple code to display the correct image in any location where the model number is available. The product info page would be straightforward, and if you used the model cell in the product listing (and turned off the product image cell), you could add code to output the image there in addition to or instead of the model number (ISBN).

Getting the image in other places would become trickier, though, so depending on your organizational needs this may not be worthwhile doing.

Thanks. I don't want to make any changes to the layout. Will have to resort to downloading the images in bulk & uploading them.

Can you recommend any program to download images based on the image tag I had mentioned earlier?
