Marking attributes 'Out Of Stock'

Apologies if I've missed this somewhere, I've searched for twenty different things and read a hundred threads and can't quite find a definitive answer to my question!

I have the 'Stock by attributes' module installled and everything works perfectly, but what I'm looking for is a way to indicate when a particular option is out of stock on my product info page. I am selling t shirts with 3 colour and 3 size attributes for each one. When for example a small black shirt is out of stock there is no indication of this until it's added to the cart and the cart is viewed. Is it possible to check the stock level from the product info page as soon as the attributes are chosen and display a warning that it's out of stock so that the customer can make another choice before reaching the cart?
