USPS Shipping Module by MarcoB - RateV4, IntlRateV2 - Support Thread

Oh Linda, I messed up.

So if I'm using Marco's module, I don't have to do any upgrade?

Re: USPS Shipping Module by MarcoB - RateV4, IntlRateV2 - Support Thread

No I worded that really bad ... what I am trying to say is if you fully are swiching from Marco's USPS and going to USPS J5 (our version ever) ... you need to fix modules.php as Marco's version changed that file originally with references that do not exist if you switch to out USPS version ...

So that might be a clue to the bug you mentioned ...

If that is not what you are doing, switching to the Zen Cart version of USPS, then that is not or may not be 100% of your issue but could be a clue on what is the problem that you are having ...

Does that better explain the tying to that bug and Marco's USPS vs Zen Cart USPS version? :lookaroun

Re: USPS Shipping Module by MarcoB - RateV4, IntlRateV2 - Support Thread

Great! Ok, I already did that....but the shipping estimator is not calculating correctly.

Is there by any chance that the patch of Marco's module still messing with that? For example I have marked that I don't want weight to show, but stills showing.

For example, if I add an article that is 10Lbs. and another that is 2x10Lbs. (20Lbs); it says that's 30Lbs, so it should calculate Priority Lg F/R $16.85 but for some weird reason is saying Md F/R $24.70 (like if I was sending 2 boxes of $12.35). Why?

@IdeasGirl - The module is calculating that the items in the cart weigh too much for an FR-B, so it converts it to 2 M-F's.

I just did a test changing that max to 70# (instead of 29) and continues doing same calculation. It also continues showing the amount of pounds on cart which I already unchecked on the configuration (I just use the pounds to calculate the flat rate boxes, not for actually pounds, so I don't need them to show up).

Another thing is that is not giving the Regular Priority Mail option (30 - 70 pounds) that I set up.

Re: USPS Shipping Module by MarcoB - RateV4, IntlRateV2 - Support Thread

Your settings indicate that you have the J5 version installed in places as well as parts of the unsupported, outdated (as of July 28) Marco module. That may or may not have an effect on your particular problem but restoring the default zencart modules.php in the admin section will remedy the yellow error message and ensure that you have the current J5 version instead of a mix.

Re: USPS Shipping Module by MarcoB - RateV4, IntlRateV2 - Support Thread

This is the version I have installed now:
USPS United States Postal Service - Version: 2013-07-28 J5

Other than db, I don't know where. I have already upload original module.php to admin as Linda indicated.

Did the old Marco module have a bunch of other files included with it besides just the modules.php that you've been discussing? Have you put those back to original code as well?
Did you click "Remove" on all your USPS modules, before deleting their old PHP files and putting the new J5 module in place and clicking "Install"? ie: did you leave fragments of the old thing behind, that are now affecting you adversely?

Only language file in admin. It also has a sql patch as I mentioned before.

Have you put those back to original code as well?
I override them with this one. The only one I didn't override is the language file of the admin.

Did you click "Remove" on all your USPS modules, before deleting their old PHP files and putting the new J5 module in place and clicking "Install"?
Well, I didn't do it in that order  Do I have to? Maybe here is my issue?

did you leave fragments of the old thing behind, that are now affecting you adversely?
The only thing I can think of, is the patch for the database. The module doesn't include an uninstall patch.

Ok, I did it in that order. Remove > Upload files > Install > Configure

No promises on when I might be able to peek at this ...

But, can you Zip together the files for your USPS that you are trying to use, preferably in the same tree structure, and anything else that might be needed that I could actually set up a play site and see what is what?

Assume that I would be starting with a clean v1.3.9h with demo products and have no other changes to the Play site ...

Re: USPS Shipping Module by MarcoB - RateV4, IntlRateV2 - Support Thread

By some chance, do you have a 25 pound limit on your max package size that you will ship

Configuration=>Shipping/Packaging=>Enter the max package weight that you will ship: 25

That might be affecting the USPS calculations which is separate from the USPS module?

BINGO! But I changed it to 70 and now doesn't calculate anything. I tried 30 as well but continues giving same result. So how I'm supposed to make all the changes there to make it work (it was working perfectly with Marco's module).

Linda, I will if necessary now that I noticed this issue is because of the max package was the issue. The problem of showing the total weight continues being a problem even I have it unchecked on the configuration. I strongly believe this is a db issue (but I'm not programmer)

Re: USPS Shipping Module by MarcoB - RateV4, IntlRateV2 - Support Thread

I know that Linda is the USPS guru but

Which filtering option of Marco's module were you using? Weight or Volume?

We were using the volume filtering extensively and it was sometimes tricky when using the 6th - 11th digits to the right of the decimal. We abandoned the Marco version for the J5 version last Sunday and had to make a few changes to our product weights and also the weight limits on the packages in an attempt to find a balance that we could live with and we're still tweaking things.

If my mind doesn't trick me I was using weight. But I use it in a "dummy" weight because I will be using usually F/R box for all the shipping. Just for an example:
-All the solitaires and earrings are going to be free shipping but not the rest of the jewelry, so I use 1Lb. for all jewelry and the ones with free shipping, I mark them free shipping. I put a limit of 5# for the small box because they will fit in a small box and anyways anything more than $99 will be free shipping.
-So next 6# I have wallets, perfumes, which will fit without problem up to 3 in a medium box, so there's the max of 18#.
-Then I mark sandals and messenger bags as 10# because they will fit in a medium box but only 1, so any 2 of those will go to next level.
-Finally we have the large box for the bags and wedges. To those items I give a 20# to each.

Thanks for helping.

Re: USPS Shipping Module by MarcoB - RateV4, IntlRateV2 - Support Thread

Try these weights in your USPS settings

Small FlatRate 0 - 5 pounds
Med FlatRate 0 - 19 pounds
LG FlatRate 0- 30 pounds

and see if it helps.

If someone purchases a wallet and/or perfumes, the SmFR should be removed from the choices
If someone purchase a 1 messenger bags, the small should be removed from choices.
If someone purchases 2 messenger bags, the small and med should be removed from the choices.
If someone purchases wedge, small and med should be removed from choices.

You are using logic similar to what we have been using for volume filtering. We can get 5 widgets into a SmFR, 7 widgets into a LG video and 9 or more widgets into a Med FR, so our volume for the widgets was 13 cubic inches which is set into digits 6-11 of the weight field.

Re: USPS Shipping Module by MarcoB - RateV4, IntlRateV2 - Support Thread

Thanks for all the help RixStix...

Here are the result of my test based on your settings. At least we are getting somewhere...

If I do your settings they come as you say UNTIL I do 2 items of same product (very unlikely to happen but it had already). If I put in the cart 1 messenger bag and 2 sandals, I get:

United States Postal Service (Priority Mail™ Medium Flat Rate Box $24.70
United States Postal Service (Priority Mail™ Large Flat Rate Box $33.70
United States Postal Service (Priority Mail™ $36.30

So of course people will choose $24.70 and I will be short because I have to use 3 medium boxes (not 2). And even if they choose $33.70 I will be short.

At lease Priority is now coming up.

Do you think this has to do anything with the settings of boxes and pounds on Shipping/Packaging?

Re: USPS Shipping Module by MarcoB - RateV4, IntlRateV2 - Support Thread

Glad you have shipping choices being displayed. That's a step in the right direction.

Our shipping/packaging is default zencart setup except we have a tare on small packages of 0.1 pound.

I'd check the individual product weights just to be sure they are 10 pounds as you say.

I just tried an example in our store where:
My settings are
smFR 0-1.4 pounds
MdFR 0-7 pounds
LgFR 0-70 pounds

Product that fits into a MdFR = 4 pounds. Add one to cart & all ok. Change qty to 2 which would be 8 pounds and the MdFr is no longer an option.

My guess is that the product weights might need to be tweaked for the most commonly used combinations. Since changing from Marco to J5, I'm still tweaking some product weights to cause the smaller box to be removed.

Have you looked at any of the Regional Size boxes to see if you can add them to the selection mix. A RegionalA is a bit smaller than a Med FR and shipping cost is between small and med FR. Just a suggestion to give you a few more size options.

How would you ship a bag and 2 sandals? You can lower the LG FR max limit down so it will also be removed if that combination is used.

Since I have never had to consider multiple boxes being used in a single order, Linda or someone would have to enlighten us on how that is handled but I'd guess that's where edits to the SHIPPING/PACKAGING would come into play.
