Gallery2 integration downloads configuration

I am looking at setting up an online facility for people to purchase downloads of photos and videos, using the Zencart/Gallery2 integration.

Unfortunately this integration is very poorly documented and despite extensive googling I have not been able to discover how to make the downloads work. All I can find is stuff about how to make downloads work on a standalone zencart installation, such as this page https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=71

That page doesn't provide the answers... it says "Download files should be loaded to the /download directory". This obviously doesn't apply to the integrated setup, where the zencart part ought to be automatically finding the download files from the gallery2 part, but this isn't happening and I can't find any documentation on how to make it happen.

Similarly, "On the Admin->Catalog->Attributes Controller you should see a green dot next to the filename of the Download itself" - I don't even see the filename of the download.

Using zencart standalone is not an option. The client is not technically oriented and I do not want them to have access to the zencart admin area - it's far too complex and far too possible for them to screw things up.

For the same reason I don't want them to have admin access to Gallery2. They will simply have an account on Gallery2 which gives them permissions to upload, organise in albums, and remove, items for sale, but does not allow any further access.

Similarly, customers will not see zencart except when purchasing downloads. They will use Gallery2 to browse and select items.

The idea is that the client will need to do nothing other than upload material to Gallery2. That is simple enough that they can manage it without messing things up. Gallery2 will then display thumbnails of the material for sale and customers will be able to purchase downloads of the full-size photos and videos using zencart to handle the basket and checkout.

As far as I can make out the integration should certainly allow this but it is not well enough documented for me to work out how to make the downloads work.

Any help on how to set up the zencart/Gallery2 integration to allow downloads will be appreciated :)

We tried (about 4 years ago) to configure an effective ZC/Gallery2 installation, but also struggled. If I can find my original notes, I'll get back to you on this.

Hmmmm... not a good idea... Our experience shows that training the client in the use of the admin panels is (in the medium to long-term) far better than trying to find work-arounds for their supposed "technical ignorance". Besides... if you "deny" them access to their ZC admin area, how will they manage their business?

It makes sense in this particular instance, as the circumstances are somewhat peculiar. Can't really reveal the details but that's the way it is :)

Re: Gallery2 integration downloads configuration

I'm interested in similar configuration with g2/zc bridge, however I will add the items myself to the gallery and zencart.

The question is how to setup zencart to capture the original size of the images from gallery and provide them to the customer after sucessfull payment? :)

Any help much appreciated
