Empty Cart Page and New Products Question

I noticed that when my shopping cart is emptied that the "New Products for May" module shows the latest products added to the store. I did find a few minor settings for this; like how to show the number of new products. But I have a few questions:

1. Can I decide what I want to show on an empty cart page? I did not see a setting that allowed me what to show on my empty cart page, it just shows new products. What if I want to show featured or new products here?

2. We noticed that the new products showing are not the latest products added to store. If a product is modifed does this change the order new products that show? I mean would an updated price to the database for an older product then change the order?

3. Is is possible for me to determine what I want to show on the empty shopping cart page only?

What if I want to show featured or new products here?
Try setting these
admin > config > index listing > Show New Products - below Product Listing
admin > config > index listing > Show Featured Products - below Product Listing
Etc

Only as above - new, featured , specials, upcoming
