Buy now / more info on home page

When people go to my shop, I want them to see all my main products on the first (home) page immediately. I can set up Featured Products to do this - so far, so good.

But I would like each product to have buttons beside them for "buy now" (or "add to cart") and "more info", which will take them to the product page and more details.

How do I do this?

I'm at ellybooks.co.uk/shop if you want to look

Btw, I've searched and all I came up with was a thread with some code which I don't know how to insert or if it will do what I want (http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=73045&highlight=add+cart+home+page)

And an addon (http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&products_id=1440) which the support thread says doesn't work - and also, the zip folder only has a .txt document in it.

Hopefully someone can come up with a solution. I'm getting the hang of things... slowly :dontgetit

Re: Buy now / more info on home page

Try googling "zen cart featured products buy now" ... I got a slew of posts that might help you get to where you want to be.

Re: Buy now / more info on home page

I've now Googled (on top of the searches I've done in the forums and the tutorials) with no luck.

The nearest I got was this post with a string of code:-
http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43404

But in which file would I insert the code and at which point in the file? (instructions for dummies needed!)

Any idea about also putting in a more info button?

Re: Buy now / more info on home page

I went hunting again and found some code and helpful instructions on this page:-

http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?p=704607#post704607

I added it - and it actually works - yay! :jump:

I'd still like to add a "more info" button, but this is a major improvement.

Someone replied to say the next version of Zen Cart (v2.0) will have these options in the admin control panel - which would be a great improvement.

I'm going to look at the code to see if I can figure out how to add a "more info" button too - if anyone could point me in the right direction, that would be fab.

Re: Buy now / more info on home page

Updating for the benefit of those as lost as I was earlier this week. This is the best thread I've found about adding a "more info" link underneath the BUY NOW button:-

http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=136918

I've also discovered that Google often does a better job of searching for threads than the internal search engine. In particular, Google takes note of phrases in quotations, which the search button here does not. Thus, searching on "more info" in Google generated more appropriate links.

Re: Buy now / more info on home page

A final note on this one. I've managed to get "more info" links on all the category pages. Just not the Featured Products which I have in the center box of the front page. It shows up on the category page, just not the home page.

So I've effectively given up on this one. I decided to change the text on the top of the home page to read "click on product image for more information".

If anyone is stuck like I was and wants to go for this simple step, the text is in
includes/languages/english/index.php

The text is fairly obvious and easy to change.
