landing page questions

Various people suggest hiding the navigation for landing pages, so that you can funnel customers to conversion. Is this a good idea for a zencart-only website, where customers aren't going to get distracted by anything other than buying something else from the store? Do I want to do everything possible to keep them focused on the original widget they clicked through to find, and not notice anything else?

If so, how would I hide the navigation on certain pages? Some of the landing pages might be EZ pages or category pages.

When I use category pages as landing pages, I can set them up as subcategories under a disabled category called Landing Pages, and link-copy all the relevant products to it, and that works except that the breadcrumb in the header shows:

Home :: Landing Pages :: These Widgets

Is there a way to disable the breadcrumb for a category page? Am I going to need to just create top-level categories for my landing pages to avoid this problem?

Re: landing page questions

Too many questions into one thread.

Everything you read on the blogs and forums may not apply to you. It's good to know different methods of SEO but only apply what is right and fit to your specific niche.

Every landing page should have a call to action, in an Ecommerce store that means Add To Cart or Buy Now, landing page should have an Add to cart or Buy Now but what if you have something else to offer the customer, should you strip your website of the option for the customer to see what else you have to offer?

It is a good idea for SEO to optimize some pages of your website and treat them as a "Landing Page" but don't strip away core site navigation. You can however remove Call To Actions that may take the customer off your website such as Like Us on FaceBook or Twitter unless that's what your call to action is.

If you choose to remove navigation, I am assuming you mean SideColumns, you can set the rules in the tpl_main_page.php. There are information about what to do inside that file.
