..and while I have you here,haredo, can I ask if that will show even if I have product priced by attributes set to no when clearly my product has attributes but which don't require separate stock taking levels or base level adds?

Well to answer your question honestly is to make a sample test product which duplicates this procedure and create an order then go back to the site if it is marked out of stock...
Create the order a a moneyorder/check

Well it never marked it "out of stock" as I was hoping but instead simply said "no products to display" which I guess is the same thing- sort of! ha

There are several other options in the Configuration >> Stock menu. Try some of the other combinations to get what you want.
