How to backup Zen Cart by FTP?

Hello,
I'm newbye in Zen Cart, and currently I study this platform on my site https://www.useprest.ro
I have a little question, because I didn't find out an response to my dillema "how to backup zen cart by FTP".

I make changes every day on my site, and I want to backup always the files because I don't want to make an mistake and lose what I've done until that moment.

So, I copy/paste my files and folders from ROOT of the site, in my local disk by Total Commander. Is this enough?

If I get errors on site, I want to re-upload the files and folders (zen cart backup) from my local disk to the root of the site ... Yesterday I make some mistakes and I re-uploaded the files, but nothing happened, the errors still was there, so I reinstalled the Zen Cart.

I really don;t want to uninstall/install everytime when I get errors...
