How to update 1.38 version?

Hi! I had security problem with my version... can you tell me a solution for easly update my customized version?

Doing an upgrade can be quite easy...

... OR, it can be quite complicated.

It is EASY if you have no Add-On modules (or very few), and very little CUSTOM changes to core files.

It is COMPLICATED if you have lots of Add-On modules, and / or if you have a lot of core files that have been customised.

One of the best ways of checking to see what files are affected in an upgrade, is to read the CHANGELOG report that comes with a packaged new version (in the DOCS folder).

The Change Log will tell you what files have been altered from the previous version, and it is only these changed files you need worry about.

Then, you can COMPARE the equivalent files in your 1.3.8 version, with their counterpart in the 1.3.9h version.

You do this on your own computer - not the server. You FTP all your current ZC folders and files to your hard drive, then use a program like WINMERGE to compare the files.

If your 1.3.8 files have special lines code that were inserted at some point, then you are going to have to apply that code the the 1.3.9 file of the same name and type.

This is the only way to ensure that the BEHAVIOUR created by that special coding for 1.3.8 website, is carried over to your 1.3.9 website when you over-write the older files.

And finally... always BACK UP properly before you start an upgrade.

We always create a working COPY of the site (including a COPY of the database) and do our upgrade there first. Only when we are happy that the upgrade did not break something, do we then upgrade the live site.
