How can I copy and paste all items in a category as a NEW CATEGORY?

I have a category already set up with many product listings in it. I would like to copy the entire category and paste it into a new category and then just edit each product number on the new one (since everything else is the same) My group is A127 to A173 for example and it has 50 product listings. I would like to copy the whole group and put the items in a new category of K127 to K173 and then just change the product name in the new one from A127 to K127. I am trying to save having to re-enter all the information since everything is the same but that number. I have to make several categories this way and it would be a whole lot easier if I can use what I already have entered. Thanks!

You can do that if you're careful with the batching capabilities from your category pages.

First you'd create the new category and put one item in it. Make note of the category number for future reference. And make note of the category number where the products exist now.

Now go to any product and select the "M" icon on the right like you were going to move the product. Now scroll down to the bottom of the page and you'll see the ability to batch change by category.

Lets say for example the old category number is 500 and the new category number is 600.

First you'd use the Link all products and Link everything in cat 500 to cat 600.

Then you'd use the Change Master category and Change Master category for all products in category 600 to 600 so that 600 becomes their main category.

Then you would use the Remove link and remove the linked products in Category 500.

After you do that everything that was in the old category will be in the new one and the old category will be empty and you can remove it.

I think that's what you were trying to do?

You can do that with the product by 1st copying the product and choosing the Copy and not the Link and then Move it to the other category but you can't copy all products in bulk, that's done individually. Maybe someone will stop by that can offer some help from the database side to handle what you want to do.
