Sigh... what happened? my templates colors are wrong.

Good evening...

I had newly installed my zencart and started editing.... Then I copied the files and folders to my own template dog_jumps. But when I activated it, all the coulours had gone pink and wrong.... how do I change that back to green? and why doesn't it want to take the logo.gif or the header_bg.jpg that I placed into my templates images folder.

Sigh.... it seems like nothing I change in the stylesheet.css actually happens in my template.

Please help.

also The part on the header that you change (currently saying :The canine agility equipment champion.) does not want to change but I changed it in the header.php in classic and dog_jumps folder under includes/language/english

What you're seeing is the template_default template. If you want to start with the Classic template, you need to copy the contents of the folders under includes/templates/classic into the same folders under your custom template named folder, creating those folders if they don't exist.

Did you select your custom template in Admin - Tools - Template Selection ?

I did copy them into my template folders called dog_jumps. And yes I activated it in admin... and its not the regular green one, its like pink and orange?

Re: Sigh... what happened? my templates colors are wrong.

The green one is the Classic template - it's installed by default but it isn't the template_default template, it's an example of a custom template. The one you're seeing is definitely template_default.

Looking at your source, it's showing that you're using the template_default template - did you also copy the template_info.php file from includes/templates/template_default to includes/templates/dog_jumps without editing it ?

The first time you activate a new template you must also do this:

Admin > Tools > Layout Boxes Controller

  • click the "reset" button at page bottom

The learning is in the doing.

Yup that just reset the boxes to there classic position.... My-bee I can manually change the template colours? but do I edit the default template files or classic or dog_jumps which is activated?

There are few things you are not understanding in using the override system. Probably best if you use the link at top of this page, for Tutorials and search for 'template override'. You could also download a free template only if to see how the template override system should be setup.

Doing the above should help to answer a lot of questions for you and ease some of your frustrations; which we all went through when first learning about template overrides.
