Zones and Shipping Confusion

I've had success setting up my cart so that the "weight" of a product equates to the cost of shipping, which is then shown in the checkout page. For example, I have a book selling at £9.99 with a "weight" of 1.5, which adds a £1.50 shipping cost.

Now I am looking at creating zones so the shipping rates are higher for countries outside of the UK. I have read https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=69 several times so I understand it.

However, how is this going to work alongside the current method I have for UK shipping which I am happy with?

I just want to add an extra £1 when shipping to European countries outside the UK and an extra £2 for the rest of the world.
(those shipping rates are just an example).

Many thanks for your help.

Hi Kobra - that first link you gave me doesn't work. Would you mind checking it?

Oh dear. It was in answer to my original query.
I've decided to leave it for now and see how things work out.
