Quick, maybe dumb question

Hello Everyone,
I am currently using a free template, if I change to a new free template will it mix everything up? If I had deleted a side box, will that stay gone, etc. Also if I change my current template and it does change everything and then I go back right away does it go back to what it was?

When you install a new template, you have to go into admin>tools>layout boxes controller and reset the side boxes.
