Table rates confusion

After searching through the forums I'm still not able to get my shipping options set up as needed. I'm using Zen 1.3.9h with Table Rate Clone (and a lot of other mods). Here's the scenario:

Table 1 - Free shipping over 3 lbs - most US locations
Table 2 - UPS 3 Day - based on weight - most US locations
Table 3 - UPS 2 Day - based on weight - most US locations
Table 4 - UPS Next Day - based on weight - most US locations
Table 5 - UPS Ground - based on weight - AK/HI/Puerto Rico, USPS Priority to APO/FPO

All these tables work as they're supposed to.

Now I need to add a table to do this: if the total shipping weight is under 3 lbs, there would be a $3.00 charge for the first item and $1.00 for each additional item. Also, none of the other options would be available to the customer. Do I set this to be weight based or item based? It seems it needs both!

hi, from what i can see here, forgive me if im wrong, but its not table rate you need to setup, if you are asking a customer to choose 2day, 3 day, next day delivery then they all need to be seperate shipping modules with your us locatation rates within the module.

It would be a matter of duplicating a shipping module for each of your table rates, each with its own shipping name and rate

this would give the user an option to choose the delivery method he/she chooses

Thank you for your response. Actually the way the tables are set up work perfectly - if you reside in one of the zones those options are the only ones that appear when you select your shipping.

The problem is not with how these tables are set up but with creating another option - whether it's a table or something else - to create a rate based on both count and weight. If an item(s) weighs less than 3 pounds, there's a $3.00 charge and $1.00 for each additional item. That would be the only shipping method. If the total weight is over 3 pounds the other options would be available.

Any idea how to make that happen? Thanks again!
