Trouble with files uploaded with customers' orders

I know this question has come up a few times and has to my knowledge not been resolved, but my client seriously needs this functionality, so here I am.

I need customers to be able to send an image file along with the "contact us" form. I can't ask customers to shell out to their own email client and send it, my client would loose most of these orders doing that. I also can't have the files attached as attributes because my client is not savvy enough to find the files in Cpanel and the naming convention there is not helpful at the moment. So email to my client via "contact us" seems the only way forward.

I basically understand how to add attachements to a php email form, but I have no idea, after a good bit of searching, which file(s) in Zencart I need to work with. Presumably I just need to find where the email type is set and change it to text/file, find the html and add the upload box, and set the filename and paths for the upload prior to the email being sent (along with some requiset file size/extensions check).

I just don't know where. Please help.

Re: Trouble with files uploaded with customers' orders

Are these images relating to a product, like a logo to be placed on a coffee mug ? If so, attributes are the way to go, and I've never met a business person who couldn't learn to use FTP, especially for something as simple as this.

Failing that, maybe a mailto link in the product description ? That would seem to be less intrusive to the process than sending the customer to the Contact Us page.

Re: Trouble with files uploaded with customers' orders

It's more an issue of won't than can't regarding using FTP, but I can try. Either way the numerical sequence of filenames, which are not attached to an order number or customer name is not going to work, there's simply no way to be sure which image comes from which order or attempted order.

I agree though that a 'mailto' link, or something like it in the cart would be best. I was going to place a link there to the 'contact us' form, since I figured that would be simple, and already integrated. Now I'm thinking that generating an entirely separate attachment email page and linking it might be best. Time to learn exactly how to do that I guess.

Re: Trouble with files uploaded with customers' orders

If I understand, you could (and I recently have) create an HTML form on an EZ page and link to that.

(As an aside, thanks to schoolboy for recommending the Machform form building tool - excellent program.)
