Coupon Code for some, but not all, new customers

So I know that coupon codes can be configured via the Coupon Admin screen. I also know that if I wanted to send ALL new customers a coupon code, I could do so when they sign up via the GV Coupons screen and selecting the appropriate coupon in the New Signup Discount Coupon ID# field.

Here's what I want to do though. I want to utilize coupon sites such as retailmenot.com, couponit.com, etc to drive some traffic to my site and submit an offer of X% off for new customers only.

How do I set up a coupon that will only be accepted for new customers (meaning they have yet to place an order) and ISN'T automatically sent to all new customers (which is what the New Signup Discount Coupon ID# field does)?

you might be able to do this with MailBeez (free zencart addon - find in the dowload section or on mailbeez.com)

However I am not sure how you would like to separate "some" new customers from all? Is that coupon only for these who signed up but never purchased anything?

Thanks, I'll take a look into mailbeez. So to clarify, here are some use cases:

USE CASE 1

  • Potential customer finds coupon code for my site on retailmenot, couponit, etc
  • Customer creates NEW account and orders product with coupon code

USE CASE 2

  • EXISTING customer finds coupon code for my site on retailmenot, couponit, etc
  • Customer logs into my site (since they're an existing customer and already have an account and prior order history) and attempts to order products with coupon code
  • Zen Cart rejects coupon code stating 'Coupon code is for new customers only'

So it basically boils down to only allowing NEW customers who found the coupon via the coupon site to be allowed to use it. Does mailbeez provide that type of functionality? I see a 'Contact Customers w/o purchase' module from them, but that's not exactly what I'm trying to do.

Thanks in advance for any help!

ok, I understand - your issue is more connected to the coupons system. MailBeez can't solve that.

How do you want to stop existing customers to create a new account to use the coupon?

There's really no way to stop existing customers from creating a new account (pretty sure the unique key is email address right?). That's the same issue facing any merchant offering any sort of new customer coupon, so it'd be something we'd just have to deal with.

Am resigned to doing some custom code to get this feature I take it?

Daydylus, have you had any luck finding a solution? I also am having this exact same problem.... and am searching for a solution. I don't want to canibalize my existing customer sales with a flood of coupon codes.
