Processing Orders by Item instead

I've done some searches on this forum and can't seem to find what I'm looking for, so I figured I'd ask and see if anyone knows.

I am currently working on a Zen Cart for my office, and we're going to use it to collect supply orders from the employees and then from there order these supplies from other sites. My problem is that I want to be able to split the orders up into their individual items, so that I can keep track of their status separately (Pending, Processing, Delivered, etc.) Currently, you are only able to label them as a whole order, which isn't helpful if you want to tell the customer that Item A has been delivered, while Item B is still yet to be received.

I have installed the Orders Exporter add-on, but while this helps me sort/arrange them in the spreadsheet separately, there is no feedback to the database and customer with this solution.

My question is a) whether it is possible to edit the cart to show ordered items rather than order groups, or b) whether there is an add-on that handles this problem.

I haven't looked at Super Orders recently, but it used to allow the splitting of orders so that the delivered part could be given a different status to the part still needing attention.

I copied the files for the Super Order add-on to their respective folders, and now my Admin section doesn't work at all!?! I'm checking back now to see if I did anything wrong, but this is really scaring me!

It has to be due to the Core Edits, right? Or could some of the added files be causing a problem?

I got the Super Orders add-on to work, but it only splits orders in two, I still need a way of editing statuses of individual products within an order. We might have to go through and add an additional orders_products_status line or something probably. Any ideas?

That's a bigger change than it sounds with a lot of knock-on implications. It is planned for the next generation of Zen Cart, but would be difficult to integrate into this one with the current order architecture.
