Inserting my own image

How do i insert a custom image into the center or one of the side bars and have it link to a specific catagory of products

You use one of the banner sideboxes.

Zen Cart has three built in. Any would do.

By putting an image in the center, do you mean centering it with a banner box. If so, that's already the default.
