Adding Product to Cart Takes 5 minutes to load.

Hey. Just needing some help.

I'm working on a new storefront and when I select "add to cart" on any given product, it takes roughly 3-5 minutes to load. It just holds in "waiting..."

The site is:
p o s t a l b a l l . c o m
and is a work in progress...

Any ideas why it would take that long?

Thank in advance for any help.

Re: Adding Product to Cart Takes 5 minutes to load.

What sales/discounts are enabled?
How many attributes on the product? How many available options of selectable attributes are available for that product?
What addons are installed? What ZC version?

Re: Adding Product to Cart Takes 5 minutes to load.

I added all of your products to the cart and they all added immediately ...

Which one are you having trouble with?

Re: Adding Product to Cart Takes 5 minutes to load.

I've been working on this all day and may have an answer to the mystery... but it's not making sense to me. We'll see if it holds water tomorrow.

Here's the deal: we have an internet protection software called "K9" that I believe could be the culprit. Basically, I added the exception to that software and viola. Seems to be working.

Why would it just "hold things up" for 3 - 5 mintues and then allow the cart to load? Either block it or dont. Don't just hold it up. That doesn't make sense to me. All I know is that it's working now after adding the exception...

I'll jump back on the forum if it starts up again.

Weird.

Re: Adding Product to Cart Takes 5 minutes to load.

maybe it's finding some pattern in the URL?
or maybe you've got something rogue on your site (a file corrupted by something bad on your 'puter?) that's triggering a possible problem
maybe a good time to do a thorough PC scan?

just some ideas to consider

Re: Adding Product to Cart Takes 5 minutes to load.

Well, the problem is still there, it appears.

Ajeh, actually all the products seem to do it. The one I've been messing with most is this one:

http://www.postalball.com/sendaball/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5&products_id=9

It's strange that sometimes it loads fast for me and other times it loads slow. I cannot seem to replicate consistently when it does it. Sometimes it seems that it is triggered by forgetting to select a color, then retrying. Other times, that doesn't replicate it.

Dr Byte,

You asked a series of questions 2 days ago.

1). What sales/discounts are enabled?
None.

2). How many attributes on the product?
Several. Of different types. Drop down. Radio and Text.

How many available options of selectable attributes are available for that product?
Currently, 2 on the drop down (3, if you include "Any")
Also, 3 radio options.
And 2 text options.

3). What addons are installed?
No addons.

4). What ZC version?
v1.3.9h

Potential Pertinent info: I created the site as an addon within cPanel of my other site beamer films. I'm using the SSL for Beamer within the Postal Ball site. So my http info looks like https://beamerfilms.com/postalball (or something like that). Zen-Cart runs the Beamer Films website speedily and well.

I don't think that would necessarily cause an issue since we're not moving into the https area of the site, but could it be what's up?

Dr. Byte you also mentioned "maybe it's finding some pattern in the URL?" I'm not certain what that might mean or how to fix. Could you explain?

I could start from scratch, I suppose and ditch anything I've done thus far outside of my style sheet.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Cris

Re: Adding Product to Cart Takes 5 minutes to load.

Oh, one more revelation.

If it is slow to load once I've attempted to check out and I "stop" the browser and hit refresh, the product has actually been loaded into the cart. I wonder why it won't kick me into the "Shopping Carts Content Page"?

This is bizarre...

For what it's worth, most of the page loads quickly here in IE8, except it hangs on something at the end. The page is useable though, and if I click anywhere on the page, it finishes loading.

It could be the Share This thing.

Re: Adding Product to Cart Takes 5 minutes to load.

https would be unrelated.

stevesh raises a very valid point ... if you've got external site marketing/tracking/etc junk on the page, turn that stuff off to rule out those external sites being the culprits to cause your browser to be delayed in displaying the cart pages.

it doesn't seem that the problem is within ZC, but rather with something happening delivering the content to your browser

Thanks for testing it!

I added the Share This stuff yesterday as a test. It was happening pre-ShareThis. I'll go ahead and take that out for troubleshooting and making certain nothing is congesting things.

Again, thanks for checking it.

Thanks Dr. Byte,

We posted at the same time, it appears. I added those after things were acting funny (just wanted to see how they looked on the page), but have removed them for now.

I've downloaded a fresh version of Zen-Cart and am working on reinstalling in a new folder to see if that eliminates the problem. If not, I'll re-engage.

Thanks for everything!

Re: Adding Product to Cart Takes 5 minutes to load.

Just an update now.

I believe I've isolated the problem. After installing the store again, the problem persisted. That said, I decided to uninstall K9, the web security software I mentioned previously, from this computer to see what would happen.

Viola. Problem solved. No matter how hard I try, I cannot replicate the problem any longer.

Therefore, in the case that another Zen-Cart user happens to have K9 installed and has the same issue: uninstall it to see if you're store functions properly.

Thanks for your help, though! As usual, I am grateful for Zen-Cart and folks jumping in to help.

Thanks,

Cris
