suPHP and .htaccess files > php.ini

I'm using zen-cart-v1.3.9h, and have got it working and even got it to the point of integrating with PayPal (tested! works!) - and then, of course, we moved and had to shelve everything temporarily.

Just catching a breather and trying to get back into the website and cart, and I get an e-mail from my website host that says:

'[we are changing over to] suPHP, [and] we will change file and folder permissions for you. We will also be moving any special PHP directives that you have included in .htaccess files, into your own php.ini file. suPHP does not support PHP directives inside .htaccess files.'

I got the part of my host's e-mail that talks about permissions, and can modify those easily, but does Zen Cart support php.ini files? If not, is there a workaround for suPHP's restriction on .htaccess?

Not a Zen Cart issue.

They're talking about anything you've added to your .htaccess files that starts with "php_value". Zen Cart doesn't use any of those (other than has a couple on the admin side as examples in v1.3.x), so anything they find there that needs moving is related to things you've customized for yourself or added by addons.

As for permissions, simply setting the permissions to what suits the server's requirements is fine. Zen Cart doesn't care about permission "numbers". It only needs certain files set to "read-only" or certain folders set to "writable" ... so whatever "numbers" that equates to for your server, that's what you'll need to use.
