State - Always display as pulldown Set To True = Extra Space Before State...

Hi,

When I set Admin > Configuration > Customer Details > State - Always display as pulldown? to True I get an extra blank space before the input in the state input box when using the "Type a choice below ..." for countries like the UK etc. where zones aren't already defined.

See screenshot attached... note the extra space in the state input box compared to the city input box.

This results in an extra space in the database for that customers state, which then affects invoice address spacing etc. - no big deal, I know, but a bit annoying nonetheless... and a possible bug?

This occurs in FF6 and Chrome 13, on a fresh ZC 1.3.9h install on XAMPP. I haven't tested in any other browsers yet.

If you have no Zones defined for that country, you will see the blank ...

For example, try selecting United States ... does the blank disappear?

No, because then the customer would be selecting a state, rather than typing one in. As I previously stated, this only happens when the customer has to type their state in.

I am confused ... if that wasn't there, then where would they type it? :unsure:

I think you may of misunderstood the problem.

So for a customer in the UK, when they type their state (rather than select it from the dropdown list) in the input box underneath where it says "Type a choice in the box below ..." they get this:

' Typed State' <-- extra space in front of Typed, compared to:
'Selected State' <-- which has no space in front of it.

Aha! a clue ... thanks for the update we will look into it ...

I'm trying to make the user input only abbreviations for their State example (NY) I set the state dropdown list to always show.

Will the state dropdown list return the abbreviations in my orders?

The only way I can tell if this works is to wait for an order to come .
