Are There Classes available?

Hi,

I would like to learn how to use zen cart. I have a website already that a designer built but I want to be able to fix it, or redesign it and work on it myself. I used to do well in Dreamweaver and HTML but times have changed.
Does anyone know if there are classes in the Los Angeles area? I have a book but I do better in a class with people showing me.

Any other advice for a wanna be beginner?

Thanks for your time!
Brigitte

Re: Are There Classes available?

I've never heard of any Zencart classes.

As far as suggestions, install one or more Zencart installations in subdirectories of your domain and just try stuff. Read all the Tutorials/FAQ items and search the forums if you get stuck on something, posting a question if you just can't figure it out. That's how most here learned.

The Book (ad above) is good, and there are some working-with-Zencart videos out on the Web.

Tip: Put Dreamweaver away when working with Zencart. You need an FTP program and a good text editor.

Re: Are There Classes available?

DrByte:

You can find video tutorials by Ten Ton on the Recommended Services page: http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=infopages&pages_id=27

Will the Ten Ton Videos show you how to work with an existing site or is it only for building a new site? Also is it recommend to purchase the full package or certain individual tapes, and are these tapes up to date with the newest versions of zen cart? Thank you in advance.

Re: Are There Classes available?

Shows you the concepts of setting up a new site, working with the various admin pages to manage products and orders, etc.
The concepts addressed haven't changed significantly between v1.3.x and v1.5.x, so the content is equally relevant to both.

Re: Are There Classes available?

The USER MANUAL remains the best "reference" for admin management issues.

For code-related issues, you should go do some general studying on php, mysql, css, js and other programming-related languages.

What I found useful in the early days was understanding the functional nature of database-driven websites, and once I had a good grasp of this, I could more easily understand how zencart is structured.

The zencart WIKI was hugely helpful in understanding this structure - but you need to have a good understanding of database-driven websites before it makes any real sense to you.

Re: Are There Classes available?

Are the Ten Ton Zen Cart videos still up to date. We have found no way to contact the company selling the tapes and any emails sent have been returned. Thank you in advance

We were hoping to use the videos to learn how to update our site and install current updates.

Re: Are There Classes available?

Is it worth me purchasing the Ten Ton Zen Cart tapes? Will I learn from them considering I did not originally build my own carts? Thanks in advance.

You already asked the same question back in March:

And received the following replies:

And I would add further that they help you understand the day-to-day store administration activities (products, sales, specials, attributes, order processing, customers, etc) as well as setting up a new store.

I just checked links on ZenCart home page on 7/14/2018 and the Ten Ton links do not work. And then I found a link on Google for this Ton Ton ZenCart course, but the page it took me to, says "Zen Cart Quick Start Sorry…this course has been discontinued".:( https://tentononline.com/ten-ton-zen-cart-ecommerce-quickstart/
