can't access admin area :( help pls

Hi guys,
I use zencart v139, i,m a newbe this would be my first shop. I have hosting from godaddy and everything worked ( well it wasn't easy) till now. I succesfully instaled zencart, then I had to rename my admin folder, I followed all the instructions from this tutorial

my configure.php file where I modified lokk like this:

define('DIR_WS_ADMIN', '/adminsofie10/');
define('DIR_WS_CATALOG', '/');
define('DIR_WS_HTTPS_ADMIN', '/adminsofie10/');
define('DIR_WS_HTTPS_CATALOG', '/');

define('DIR_FS_ADMIN', '/home/mystore.com/www/public/adminsofie10/');
define('DIR_FS_CATALOG', 'home/mystore.com/www/public/');

When I tried to login to your admin using the new URL, It failed.

Please show me where and what I do wrong...if u need more info, just ask.

Thank u in advance

Re: can't access admin area :( help pls

If the PATH in configure.php references a folder called "adminsofie10", then your admin folder need to be renamed to that too.

BUT... now that you have told the world that your admin folder is called adminsofie10, you need to give it a different name.

By the way... GoDaddy is about the WORST place to host eCommerce sites. There are MANY reasons, and if you search this forum you could spend several hours learning why.

If you can, get out of that environment BEFORE your site starts to trade.

eCommerce is serious business, and your host needs to know how to configure servers to handle it safely and efficiently.

GoDaddy is NOT one of those types of hosts, I'm afraid...

I wrote in the browser https://www.mydomain.com/adminsofie10/ and no page showed, it shows me the fast browser search, so I can't access admin cp.
I used notepad++, I was careful to make the file configure.php writeble before editing, I deleted it from filezila and then uploaded again from pc. made it read only again...
Pls tell me what I did wrong?

Until you reach a stage where you are confident about editing files, you should not DELETE core files off the server. You should rather re-name them to a BAK file (or similar)

configure.php on the server can be re-named to configure.bak

Then... if things fail, you can remove your edited file and change the BAK file to its original file extension.

It's possible something has gone wrong with your edit... but we can't advise further because we don't know what you put into this file, or how your installation has been set up.

Re: can't access admin area :( help pls

Remember... there are TWO configure.php files in your setup.

One controls the STORE side of the site
The other controls the ADMIN side of the site.

They are similar, but NOT interchangeable.

You can, however, use the one in the STORE side of the site to give you important information regarding PATHS and DATABASE SETTINGS.

So...

FTP the following file to your hard drive:

includes/configure.php

Open it up and PRINT IT OUT.

Then, make a copy of the dist_configure.php file that sits in the admin/includes/ folder of a fresh copy of the software.

From your print out, make sure the ADMIN version of dist_configure.php has all the correct PATH and DATABASE information.

You will see that there are references to admin-specific information in the dist_configure,php file, that are not evident in the print-out.

You need to make sure you put in the correct PATHS to the admin folder.

When done, SAVE the dist_configure.php file to your hard drive.
RE-NAME it from dist_configure.php, to configure.php

Then, FTP it to your admin/includes folder.

(I use admin above, because I don't know the name of your admin folder)

Give it appropriate permissions... 444 are usually required.

Re: can't access admin area :( help pls

sofie,

On your admin/includes/configure check to see if there is DB_PREFIX here:

// define our database connection
define('DB_TYPE', 'mysql');
define('DB_PREFIX', 'zen_');
define('DB_SERVER', 'localhost');
define('DB_SERVER_USERNAME', 'root');
define('DB_SERVER_PASSWORD', '');
define('DB_DATABASE', '');
define('USE_PCONNECT', 'false');
define('STORE_SESSIONS', 'db');
// use 'db' for best support, or '' for file-based storage

If there is, remove it. Just zen_, not the '' marks. Then see if you can bring up your admin page.

Re: can't access admin area :( help pls

thank for your help guys, but it still doesn't work :(
In the tutorial they say to change admin with my secret name, but I see something different:
-in my file configure.php from admin/includes I have:

define('DIR_FS_ADMIN', '/admin/');
define('DIR_FS_CATALOG', '/');

-in the tutorial they have:

define('DIR_FS_ADMIN', '/home/mystore.com/www/public/admin/');
define('DIR_FS_CATALOG', '/home/mystore.com/www/public/');

which one is correct? should i change something, although they say to change only the word "admin"?

Re: can't access admin area :( help pls

DIR_FS_ADMIN and DIR_FS_CATALOG should have long values, not just '/admin/' or '/'.

It would seem appropriate for you to re-run zc_install again, after first making your two configure.php files writable. Then zc_install can build correct files for you. And then you can rename the admin folder afterwards.

txs,

If you can access your store front, then the configure.php file for that area of your site is correct.

In an earlier post, I suggested you look at:

/includes/configure.php

... as that will show you the server paths relevant to your installation.

PRINT OUT THAT FILE.

Then... go to

/admin/includes/configure.php
(where "admin" is the name of your admin folder)
and download it to your hard drive.

REFER to your printed copy, then, re-construct the admin configure file using the data in the print-out.

Re: can't access admin area :( help pls

The "PHP Output Buffering (gzip)" status can be safely ignored. It's common for that to be disabled on hosts that haven't taken the time to tune their servers for better performance for their customers.

schoolboy, good job of troubleshooting but you didn't mention what the actual problem was? Would be good info for those with similar problems and reading this thread in the future.

Website Rob:

schoolboy, good job of troubleshooting but you didn't mention what the actual problem was? Would be good info for those with similar problems and reading this thread in the future.

I'll give the headline issues only:

  1. Hosting with GoDaddy (problem in its own right, we all know, but there you are... She's stuck with them for a while, so...)

  2. ZC loaded in a sub-folder called "store". She wanted it in ROOT.

  3. Database set up on GoDaddy needed password reset so we could link the dbase to zc.

  4. Grabbed a fresh copy of zc 1.3.9h off Sourceforge.

  5. FTP'd zc software to root

  6. Deleted "store" folder.

  7. Ran zc install. Deleted zc_install. Rename admin, edit admin configure.php to reflect new dir name.

  8. Cloned "classic" template and created a custom template for her. Made sure to put template folders in appropriate places in languages, modules and made sure template_info.php shows new template name.

  9. set her up with admin console access. Loaded new template. Reset Sideboxes. Edited meta_tags.php, header.php and index.php in languages to get rid of things like "Congratulations..." and to give meta tag her company name, etc...

  10. Other general and basic initial settings to help her on her way.

took 20 minutes...

PS: "fantastico" was NOT used initially by the OP. She had had the "courage" to try the install herself, but got a little lost.
