What can be done to stop this spam?

I am receiving around 30-50 or more emails every day. They are all titled "Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender".

Can someone tell me how to stop it without clicking on their link? I have use "spamitback" software but it does not seem to have an effect.

The text of the messages very a bit but most are as follows(References to me have been replaced with ########)...

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

https://www.early1900photos.com. Yes, tell-a-friend is on. Is that a bad thing? If so, where do I turn it off?

Re: What can be done to stop this spam?

Yes "tell a friend" is basically an open door to spammers.

You have a number of options

https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=50

you can set it to only being available for registered members, However there has recently been a massive surge in bogus registrations so spammers can access this functionality.

You can try installing a captcha on that page, or the recommended course is to turn it off completely and rename the "tell a friend" folder, as even when it is turned off it is still accessible by registered users

Post 2 in this thread should help

Re: What can be done to stop this spam?

Thanks. But when I tried to also eliminate the "WRITE A REVIEW" button as the instructions say, I see that "side boxes controller" already shows that function turned off...

sideboxes/reviews.php OFF LEFT 40 0 OFF

But it is not turned off according to the button on my products pages.

You shouldn't need to turn write a review off unless you want to.

The button on that page isn't controlled by the sidebox

its this bit of that tutorial

Product Information Pages
You can enable/disable various options at the per-product-type level:

  1. Open your Admin.
  2. Put the cursor over Catalog on the top menu.
  3. Choose Product Types from the dropdown.
  4. Choose Products General (or the product type you are customizing).
  5. Click Edit Layout and turn off any settings you do not want to display.

The settings for Reviews and Tell-A-Friend on this screen are related to the corresponding buttons that appear on the product-information page (for each product).

Re: What can be done to stop this spam?

I was curious about all of the fake new users that started recently, but had no idea what they were making so many accounts for. Now it all makes sense. Thank-you

I have the same issue - is there anyone out there who I could call on the phone for some basic answers to use of ZenCart?
