removing new products, featured items, monthly specials boxes from center column

I've attempted to set up ZenCart a couple times this past year and I've either had webhost issues or zencart allowing me to edit my store through the admin page due to permissions. I finally got things worked out and even updated my webhosts version of zencart from 1.3.9d to 1.3.9h. I installed the demo material to see how zencart functions as recommended and now that I'm more familier with the templates and style sheets I'd like to start replacing the demo stuff with my own beginning with the main page. How can I remove the new products, specials and montly features boxes from my main page? I've searched the faq pages and can't find info on how to remove them.

You want to remove the sideboxes, or you want your own products in them ?

Add/remove sideboxes in Admin - Tools - Layout Boxes Controller.

Remove or re-order New, Featured, etc. from the center column in Admin - Configuration - Index Listing.

Remove the sample categories/products by deleting the categories in Admin - Catalog - Categoeries/Products.

Remove the sample categories/products by deleting the categories in Admin - Catalog - Categoeries/Products. I intend to remove some of the side boxes, like documents, music, bestsellers, stuff thats not really appropriate for my Used/Refurbished/consignment store. I managed to get the products out of the 3 boxes in the center column but the heading is still there. I just want my main page to be a gateway to my different catagories, run ads and be a Login portal for customers. So I guess my goal is to have more Html area on my main page rather than pics and links to individual products.

My Document - General is showing up in new products, featured items, monthly specials boxes from in the center column. How can I avoid that to happen as you can't buy any of the Document - General items. And I have defined these items as Document - General to distinguish them from my product items.

I have turned all radios to 0 (off) & yet "New Products For November" is showing when I empty my cart & go back to shopping. I only have one Featured product - anything else I need to turn off? Thanks

There is a set of settings for the center boxes in the Configuration ... Stock ... for the empty cart ...
