Show stock in product listing

Hi, my first posting, just getting my head round Zencart, seems to be going well.
Easy question I hope - when I list the products in the only category I have, currently the stock level does not show and I'd like it to please.
I'm selling course places so its important to have the number of places left on a given course, each course date is a separate product. If I click on any product for more info the stock shows up then but not in the product listing.
I think I've set all the right things and I have searched in the all the right places (I hope!) for answers but most peeps are asking to turn OFF the stock level! Clicking here takes u straight to it
Anyway, any help would be hugely appreciated,

There's a quantity setting in Admin - Configuration - Product Listing.

Brilliant, thanks for that! I've changed the setting and it all works a treat, Have also slightly adjusted the wording in the product php and layout in the CSS.
In an ideal world I could have the stock quantity followed by the word "places" ie 7 places available. My PHP is a long way from being good enough for that, if I post the existing bit of code could someone advise on putting that bit of plain text after the variable please?

May be a template related problem. Please identify what has been attempted specifically, what template is involved, etc...
