I can call up admin, but not the site

I'm using version v1.3.9b, and it's been running great for a long time.

Suddenly -- I didn't upgrade or change anything -- I couldn't get to the site or to the admin. A host of different error messages came up each time I tried. Now I can log in just fine to admin, but my actual site says "Access denied."

I called the web hosting company, and they say it's not a server issue. I did have them upgrade the PHP, but that did nothing.

Can anyone help???

Okay, so I figured it out eventually and I'm posting the answer here if anyone else has this problem.

The hosting company reset the permissions on my index.php page to 0. I called them up and they needed to get the manager with the root password to change the settings back. Now everything is good.
