Why are my downloadable files not showing?

I have downloadable products on the website and checkout via PayPal express. After completing the checkout and payment through Paypal, I get the "thank you" page, I get an email confirming the order, but I NEVER get the file download. I have tried in sandbox and live.

Yes, I downloaded the file to the downloads folder. I set the attributes to to the file name xxxxx.zip ( I even tried /xxxx.zip) Still no file

Can anyone help me to get this working?

Thank you
Bill

Re: Why are my downloadable files not showing?

Have you tested whether this is really a PayPal issue? ie: set up a different payment module and use that to test first.
No point troubleshooting a PayPal issue when it's something else.

Re: Why are my downloadable files not showing?

I am using V 1.3.9
not been updated
this is my first store.
I am trying to get payments through paypal for now. I have express checkout installed. I don't know what other payment method to choose. I am not familiar with using the others listed.

I have followed the instructions for setup of Paypal including the instructions given when installing the module as shown below.

In your PayPal account, enable Instant Payment Notification:
under "Profile", select Instant Payment Notification Preferences
click the checkbox to enable IPN
if there is not already a URL specified, set the URL to:
http://billrauscher.com/zencart2/ipn_main_handler.php

It seems to be doing everything except automatically downloading the file when payment is made.

HELP...please

Automatically? You have to download the file from the link provided on the checkout "thank you" page or from your "my account" area after the transaction is completed.

( Also note: PayPal will not allow you to send money to yourself unless you have 2 PayPal accounts )

Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.

Re: Why are my downloadable files not showing?

Hi Kim:
Thank you for the info but there is NO link on the thank you page to download the plans. It would work for me if there were. The only thing there is a checkbox for updating the product in the future.

As for going to "my account" to download the file, it lists the order with the status of pending and a button to "view" the order.

I am testing in sandbox mode until I get this worked out

Where would the link be?????????
or...how do I get it to show up?

Re: Why are my downloadable files not showing?

When an order is in "Pending" status, that means the store hasn't been informed that payment has been completed for that transaction yet. Thus, no download links are offered to customers. You don't want them downloading if their payment hasn't completed, right?

If you've got your PayPal module set up to operate in "Authorize Only" mode instead of "Final Sale", then the transactions will be in Pending status.
Or, if you've got the payment module settings configured such that the Order Status pulldown is set to "Pending" instead of something higher like "Processing", then the transactions will, obviously, be put into Pending status.

Re: Why are my downloadable files not showing?

See, now that is great information. I looked in the properties and the following is what is listed. Where do I setup final sale? I don't see that.

All there is is:

  • Default
  • Pending
  • Processing
  • Delivered
  • Update

Which one should it be set to?

Re: Why are my downloadable files not showing?

"Default" is whatever you've set as the default status, under Admin->Localization->Orders Status.

The others are progressive stages through the order flow.

"Pending" means what it says: "Pending". The order hasn't had payment, so is pending. Nothing should be done with it until it's a valid order.
"Processing" means exactly what it says: order is in process ... whatever that means between accepting payment and getting it shipped
"Delivered" is, well, somewhat self-explanatory ... it's been put out for delivery, or has been delivered ... no longer in the hands of the storeowner
"Update" is an oddball, used only to trigger a re-activation of expired downloads on the order

All this is explained in the book. https://www.zen-cart.com/book

OK...great! Thank you. Where do I go in to set the module to "Final Sale"?

I will look at buying the book

Re: Why are my downloadable files not showing?

OK..I went into Localization/order status and changed it to "processing" from pending

I made sure the Paypal module is set to "final sale".

I am in sandbox mode

When I go through the checkout process, I get the thank you page with NO link to download and the invoice in "my account" still says pending.

I know this is a simple thing I am missing but I have no idea what it is....any other thoughts????????????

Why did you do that? That changes things globally, not specifically to the module you're having trouble with.
huntleybill:

I am in sandbox modeMaybe that's your issue.
I always recommend using Live, never Sandbox. Period.

:deep breath:

Admin->Modules->Payment
click on Express Checkout
Click Edit
see the Order Status pulldown? Change it from Default to Processing.

Now, if you're not actually using Express Checkout, then you've got other issues.

I did that because earlier you had mentioned going to that section. Maybe I misunderstood you.

I am using sandbox mode because paypal charges me .30 cents each time I try a transaction in live mode. Unless you know a different way, I'm all ears...or is it eyes!!!

Seems by your last comments, I may be frustrating you some. Not my intention:huh: but I do appreciate your advice

Re: Why are my downloadable files not showing?

When you place a new order now, what status is the order set to when you look at it in the admin side?

Re: Why are my downloadable files not showing?

Okay. Let's collect some more info:

Admin->Customers->Orders

  • this shows the list of orders in your store
  • the first column is the order number. The next column is the payment + shipping modules. What are the codes shown there for this order you just placed?

Re: Why are my downloadable files not showing?

It lists paypalwpp
freeshipper

Also, I don't know if this means anything or not but I don't have zencart in the root folder of the server. It is in /zencart2. Would that make any difference with regard to attributes?

Re: Why are my downloadable files not showing?

What are the settings, then, in your Express Checkout module?

This is not necessarily an attributes issue yet. Until we sort out the order-status issue, there's no point looking at anything else.

The foldername is unrelated, unless of course you've got 2 installs of Zen Cart, one in each of those folders, and you're looking in the wrong admin.

Re: Why are my downloadable files not showing?

also, I downloaded the ebook for zencart, that process worked exactly like I would like mine to work. After payment it gives you a link to download a zipped file immediately.

I went through the section on setting up downloaable files and the only thing that I didn't do ( I corrected it now) was to set "order status" to update.

Now it shows the order as completed but I still get no link on the Thank You page, nor does it give me anything when I (as the buyer) go to my account page. Order info page shows "update"

When I go to admin >customers > orders > and edit the order it shows payment type as instant and payment status as completed

Re: Why are my downloadable files not showing?

When you look at the order details, you see the product you purchased. Do you see a bulleted point below it that indicates the filename attached to the product?

If not, then you didn't actually "select" the download attribute before adding-to-cart during your purchase.
