Order processed but not in ZC? PLS HELP

Hi.

I just had my first order. Well sort of. I have the funds in Paypal but ZC is unaware of any orders. The log shows no errors today...I have no idea what to do! HELP.

Okay. I've got a little more bg info now. I created another order under my test account and it did the same ie. the order checkout completed, paypal is showing the funds but nothing is reflected in ZC.e

If I look at both my history and the customers history there are no orders today. However, I can see my first test order I did on Oct. 23 when the site was under /shop.

Can this be related to having moved the site from /shop to ./ ?

Paypal IPN or Express ?

Perhaps there is something in the Paypal connection that you didn't completely reset when you moved your site to the root? I'm not a Paypal specialist so can't say more than that.

IPN

I was double checking that just now...I forgot that the IPN setup had URLs for processing. I've changed them to the correct URL now.

I've got a "processing" status in ZC and "retrying" in paypal.

I'm a bit confused about the URL now...In the wiki it says I should respect the SSL cert by adding https but in ZC it displays the url to use in paypal without the cert

Alright. So far I'm at this stage of the wiki:

Try accessing http://your_site.com/ipn_main_handler.php with your browser.

Turns out I can't access it. The perms on that file are:

rw-r--r--

I'm thinking that's okay but it's not working and I can't seem to find anywhere that lists the perms for that file. Anyone know?

The ipncheck and curlcheck reported no issues except the curltester had an error about Merchant ID account being invalid or inactive.

I'm seeing this in my log if it helps.

crap. the ipn file is owned by root...that certainly doesn't help!

So now that the perms on the ipn script are correct my test (which is after the customers order) came through.

Should I be concerned about the customers order since he placed it at least 20 minutes before my test?
I read in the wiki that PP retries "hourly". Does this mean literally on the hour of the order or just vaguely "hourly"?
And does anyone know if orders are processed in priority sequence?

Sorry, I don't know about those errors, but I suspect the problem will go away if you uninstall IPN and install the much more stable Express.

Well, crisis averted...the order finally came through.

So I should switch to Express then? Seems the general consensus is Express is better. Anyone care to explain why?

Paypal IPN is outdated and requires a solid ability for your server and Paypal's to communicate in real time. Paypal Express apparently doesn't require that real time connection and is much more reliable. Your customers will have the same options and payment experience. There's no reason I know to use IPN anymore, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it removed from future Zencart versions.

Okay. Fair enough. I'll take a gander at the wiki to see if I'm up for the change today. ...It's already been a long day! I've got tons of layout issues to address still so...

I have also experienced an order that was received on Paypal, but not shown on my ZC.

I have only the Paypal Express Check out payment module enabled on my ZC, if Paypal Express Check Out does not use IPN token, should I also disable IPN on my paypal account?
