144 Table zen_sessions is marked as crashed - GoDaddy

Headache!

Not because yesterday was raining and today is sunny, but because I have read forums and faq's for hours without solving my problem.

I guess I am not that lucky, thus I need a hand here, sorry for bugging you guys.

No modifications on my 1.3.9 zencart on Godaddy linux hosting since 5 months ago, and all of a sudden yesterday I got this both as a regular user and as admin, from more than one computer:

"
144 Table './min1022707533517/zen_sessions' is marked as crashed and last (automatic?) repair failed
in:
[select value from zen_sessions where sesskey = 'pi4i7h0e9i0nadn4kcmr90k324' and expiry > '1320824491']
If you were entering information, press the BACK button in your browser and re-check the information you had entered to be sure you left no blank fields.
"

It happens pretty often on Godaddy I could see, that sites simply become unavailable for a while, I hope they don't get a habit to do this. :censored:

As I am a presumptuous person, I presumed it's their fault, and issued a complaint note a few minutes ago :jawdrop:

However I have a little doubt, since entering FTP on my hosting I found things where I left them, so I am asking:

What the :onfire: is happening, I have not modified anything, in months, it was all routine, and all of a sudden... 144 error (whatever that means)

Question, is there anything I can do to fix it from the backdoor?

Or should I keep pissing off the Godaddy personnel? :bangin:

Thanks for the time,

Emil.

Re: 144 Table zen_sessions is marked as crashed - GoDaddy

You need to repair the table.
You can do that with phpMyAdmin, or with whatever other tools your hosting company offers you in their hosting control panel. For direct help, call their tech support.

Re: 144 Table zen_sessions is marked as crashed - GoDaddy

Do you ever sleep Sensei?

Or is more than one answering under this DR Byte profile... lol

I understood but not all the concept, I do have full FTP and back destop access, no problem, all I need is to understand where exactly to go and what to do to fix the issue.

Godaddy replied sying this is not a problem of them but a Zen-Cart issue:

"Our support staff has responded to your request, details of which are described below:

Discussion Notes
Support Staff Response
Dear Emil,

Thank you for contacting Online Support. We have reviewed your account and could not find any issues with the hosting server. The type of error you are experiencing is most likely caused by coding or scripting. Because we do not provide coding support, we are unable to determine what specifically in your code may be causing the error. However, the following may be of some assistance in diagnosing the problem:

http://www.zen-cart.com/

You may wish to review your code to determine if there are any issues, because it appears that is the most likely cause of the error. You may also wish to enable detailed error messages as a temporary diagnostic measure. The procedure for this will vary, depending on the scripting language being used. We also recommend consulting both the vendor's online documentation, as well as the large number of online forums dedicated to coding and scripting.

If you cannot access the administrative panel for Zen Cart you may be able to modify the necessary files through your file manager.

You can edit existing and create new website content through the FTP File Manager in your Hosting Control Center.

To Edit Website Content through the FTP File Manager

  1. Log in to your Account Manager. (I know how to do that)

  2. From the Products section, click Web Hosting. (I know how to do that)

  3. Next to the hosting account you want to use, click Launch. (I know how to do that)

  4. In the Content section of the Hosting Control Center, click the FTP File Manager icon. (I know how to do that)

  5. Select the file to edit, and then click the menu bar Edit icon. (which one should I lay my hand on) To create a new file for your site, click the menu bar New icon.

  6. Modify your file's content in the editing window. (and what should I modify exactly)

NOTE: The underlying source of an .htm or .html file can viewed in the HTML source editor. Click the menu bar HTML icon to view a file's underlying HTML. Click Ok to save changes made in this editor.

  7. Click the menu bar Save File icon. Your changes will appear on your website momentarily. (I know how to do that)

Please let us know if we can assist you in any other way."

end of quotation

This time I give them credit, it mighyt not be their fault, and even if it is, I cannot prove it... lol

So, where exactly should I lay my hands on , what specific page and do what logic thing to make it happen right?

To be or not to be (programmer) this is the question (skull in hand, of course; mine)

Re: 144 Table zen_sessions is marked as crashed - GoDaddy

  1. Quit GoDaddy. Clearly their support staff have NO CLUE what they're doing.
  2. This is not a Zen Cart software problem to fix via FTP. It's a database problem. Your "zen_sessions" table receives many inserts and deletes all day. It's a high-traffic table. If the server encounters a problem which prevents it from properly storing or deleting a record, the table may be marked as crashed. Sometimes it will attempt to automatically repair itself. If that fails, you will see the error message you've reported.
If the GoDaddy tech person had any skill at all, they'd know exactly what to instruct you to do:

If you have phpMyAdmin:

  • click on your database from the pulldown menu
  • click on the Operations tab across the top
  • choose the Repair option
  • select the zen_sessions table
  • Go.

If GoDaddy offers some other method to repair the table, use their method.

And find a better hosting company.

Also, the "Similar Threads" listed at the bottom of this page show other forum discussions where people have encountered the same problem, and how they fixed it.

DrByte:

If you have phpMyAdmin:

  • click on your database from the pulldown menu
  • click on the Operations tab across the top
  • choose the Repair option
  • select the zen_sessions table
  • Go.

Hopefully this will work, but I have seen cases where it doesn't. You may need to drop and recreate this table. Just use the definition from your version (1.3.9) of the sessions table (defined in zc_install/sql/mysql_zencart.sql) which is

CREATE TABLE sessions (
sesskey varchar(32) NOT NULL default '',
expiry int(11) unsigned NOT NULL default '0',
value mediumblob NOT NULL,
PRIMARY KEY (sesskey)
);

You can just paste this into admin->Tools->Install SQL Patches and it will add the "zen_" prefix for you.

The type of error you are experiencing is most likely caused by coding or scripting.

Wow, just wow. That has to be a copy/paste job. Nobody with even minimum experience would think that error was anything other than a database problem.

The best way to learn is to try stuff. But, back it up first.

Re: 144 Table zen_sessions is marked as crashed - GoDaddy

I apologize for the answer that you recieved.

DrByte is correct about his assestment of the error being with the database. Http://x.co/az6X is a help article on how to access your phpMyAdmin. Once in there you can perform the functions previously mentioned by DrByte. > DrByte:

If you have phpMyAdmin:

  • click on your database from the pulldown menu
  • click on the Operations tab across the top
  • choose the Repair option
  • select the zen_sessions table
  • Go.

Before you do I strongly suggest that you backup your database (http://x.co/az6a). Hope this helps.

Re: 144 Table zen_sessions is marked as crashed - GoDaddy

Unfortunately I am lost in woods... lol

In the database menu there is no Options and no repair in Godaddy php MyAdmin (provided by Starfield Technologies Inc.)

Thus I entered the "guilty" place, Zen Sessions table

Server: min1022707270946.db.6563892.hostedresource.com - Database: min1022707270946 - Table: zen_sessions

But there is an Repair table in the Operations Menu of the table, I used it:

SQL query:
REPAIR TABLE zen_sessions
[ Edit ] [ Create PHP Code ]

Full Texts

min1022707270946.zen_sessions repair status OK

Query results operations Print viewPrint view Print view (with full texts)Print view (with full texts) CREATE VIEWCREATE VIEW

In other words they say is OK:shocking:

I logged out, and tried to see my site as user:

144 Table './min1022707533517/zen_sessions' is marked as crashed and last (automatic?) repair failed
in:
[select value from zen_sessions where sesskey = 'llpenb43g22v15o8uhrcqgipi1' and expiry > '1320925667']

in other words it did not repaired it at all.:frusty:

OK, today I solved nothing, BTW, what can I lose by reloading a blank database ? or something similar? Since I am no programmer this is jungle to me and I try to build a road-map in my head while understanding chinese of programing language!

WE have a problem (lucky us, others have dozens)

In order to do the above procedure I need the damn Admin to perform, but there is no way I can access my admin, I am as banned as any user or visitor, and I have no admin access.

Thus I need another solution that can be something like writing the right thing in the myPHPAdmin session of Godaddy somewhere and see things running up again somehow, than I can access my admin and do things from inside.

Any ideas?

Re: 144 Table zen_sessions is marked as crashed - GoDaddy

Made another attempt:

The darn MySQL admin has a restore button that was allowing me to restore at one month ago situation (11.Oct 2011), so I clicked it

MySQL Database Information
Status:
Pending Restore
Host Name:
min1022707270946.db.6563892.hostedresource.com
Database Name:
min1022707270946
Database Version:
5.0
Description:
Zen Cart on mindyourbusines.com
User Name:
min1022707270946

and is pending restore since 2 hours ago, hoping it will finish sometimes this millennium, and naturally hoping it will work.

Until then the only thing that changed is the wrong message value:
144 Table './min1022707533517/zen_sessions' is marked as crashed and last (automatic?) repair failed
in:
[select value from zen_sessions where sesskey = 'eb7hbe8b6736lfsnru3v10qlh5' and expiry > '1321013661']
If you were entering information, press the BACK button in your browser and re-check the information you had entered to be sure you left no blank fields.

Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Re: 144 Table zen_sessions is marked as crashed - GoDaddy

Restore didn't do any good, so I am back in square 1.

Before I leave this hosting I need to do two things:

Number one, repair the darn problem and have the site up and running again

Number two, find a better and more reliable hosting place.

Thus I am looking for suggestions, opinions, methods, anything that might help.

Meanwhile I will keep bugging Godaddy, but at this point I don't trust them any longer.

Re: 144 Table zen_sessions is marked as crashed - GoDaddy

There was no need to do a restore.
You could simply do the repair or the drop-and-create using phpMyAdmin.

There are multiple levels of technical support staff at your hosting company. If the junior staff cannot handle your request, escalate it to a higher level. Ask for their boss. Then if the next person cannot help, ask for the manager above them. Then if they can't help, ask for the manager above them. Don't take no for an answer. You're a paying customer.

Re: 144 Table zen_sessions is marked as crashed - GoDaddy

There is only one things that needs dropping here...

GoDaddy

Seriously... look at what this disastrous host has cost you... Possibly 30 to 40 hours in fathoming out what's gone wrong, and the same in downtime for your store... that is lost revenue to you.

The fix could have been done by their guys in under 30 seconds...

For a couple of dollars a month more, you can get PROPER E-COMMERCE HOSTING, on servers that are configured to handle it properly.

Cut your losses, don't even bother fighting them for refunds... just put it down to experience and get out of there.

This week alone we migrated two new clients - one from GoDaddy and the other from FastHosts (birds of a feather). All of us feel so much better - great sighs of relief!

Already sent them a second request to be contacted by the technical manager, should it exist, BTW, can somebody procure me the home telephone number of the Godaddy owner? I would love to call the guy at 3 AM daily and tell him of the incompetence that reigns in his structure, untill he decides to fix my problem.

Just like I told you here: http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1078655&postcount=6

Admin->tools->Install SQL Patches

drop table sessions

create table sessions (use syntax from post I just gave)

When in phpmyadmin, and seeing all of the tables listed, scroll down until you see the sessions table (should be the ony one marked 'in use') check the box to the left of it, continue to scroll to the bottom. There should be a "with Selected" drop down, click repair in that dropdown

This seems like a reasonable idea, but it's not. A static IP is expensive, and keeping your machine patched so that it's not vulnerable when it's on the public internet without a firewall is a full time job.
