admin page format weirds in firefox, for just one site

Hello All,

Does anyone know what's going on here?

-Admin portal has no formatting in Firefox
-Works in IE fine
-Would it have to do anything with SSL? But I have another site and works fine in both browsers.
-I tried changing config files to SSL FALSE and also to TRUE and still no luck.

Any ideas?:frusty:

Thanks!
T

What version of FF are you using? I had FF and I was fine until it automatically went to 7.something, then it went screwy until I disabled a bunch of my addons, then it was fine until it started freezing randomly so now I'm on chrome and opera.

Do a Google search: Firefox no formatting

You'll see it's an occasional bug they seem to ignore as they fly through releases. Don't feel bad - there are bugs that affect your customers too by screwing with their popups.

Re: admin page format weirds in firefox, for just one site

thanks for the response Joe!

I am running Firefox 8.

The funny thing is that I also have another site and it formats fine. Same host and everything. The only difference is the template really. Hmm..could be the template.

Would switching templates screw anything up? Switching templates does not "write" anything right? I just want to make sure I can switch back without editing anything again..

Thanks!

If the templates themselves aren't broken, then switching from one to another would just change the appearance.
It is your FF. If you compare the "broke" template you are usingto the one that looks OK - look to see if the "broken" one is using some script or code that the other isn't. FF can hiccup over the stupidest of things.

Re: admin page format weirds in firefox, for just one site

Thanks again for the response Joe,

I switched template and admin login is still "not formatted" ...basically (only in Firefox) the login prompts are shifted to the left and up...not the usual centered etc...but I.E. is fine.

I can't think of anything else....

So when you mention to compare and see if they are using the same codes...how do I check that?

Thanks!

Re: admin page format weirds in firefox, for just one site

there is a free program called winmerge. google it, download it, install it.

Then if you don't have copies of both files you want to compare sitting on your computer, download them. Then you open up winmerge, open - there will be a space for opening both files - and it will pop up both side-by side with colored lines showing where alll the changes are. I would ignore the text, and look for any .php or .js or any other types of scripts to see if the bad one has something the good one doesn't.

But if the template works on the front end - the customer can use it just fine, then I wouldn't go through the trouble. I'd download chrome or opera or, it hurts me to say it, IE, and when I wanted to administer that site I'd pull up a different browser than FF. You should also enable bug reporting on your FF and post the problem to their forum so that eventually when they get tired of fixing the pretty little things they will work on the critical bugs. (I'm a bit jaded...)

And I'm sure you found by now - templates are like skins, you can swap them out easily via the control panel. If one doesn't work it will mess up your customer's buying experience, but it won't affect the admin panel so you can easily go in and switch to another template.

Alright...I'll give it a go and report back...but like you mentioned...I'll scrap FF since it's not affecting the customer...just annoying, that's all. =)

Re: admin page format weirds in firefox, for just one site

Alright...so I'm using winmerge (great tool btw) to compare the GOOD admin layout site and the BAD admin layout site

we can call it siteA.com and siteB.com

...and all the files within my /ADMIN directory are the same EXCEPT for the configure.php , which makes sense since there are differences on the site's names etc..

the one that stood out is...

define('DIR_FS_ADMIN', '/home3/siteA/public_html/zc_admin/');
define('DIR_FS_CATALOG', '/home3/siteA/public_html/');

define('DIR_FS_ADMIN', '/home5/siteB/public_html/admin/');
define('DIR_FS_CATALOG', '/home5/siteB/public_html/');

siteA is working on both FF and IE....but still hase the filesystem as zc_admin ...not even sure how it works?

siteB is the bad formatting on FF....but has the correct admin path? long story short, i changed the siteB from admin to zc_admin and still no luck though...

I guess it comes to my last (hopefully) question...does the ADMIN portal grabs any of the files outside of the ADMIN folder or only files within? obviously files like images and such but just talking about the admin login and formatting in general.

Re: admin page format weirds in firefox, for just one site

Sorry, I don't know what all goes on when you run the admin panel or the login. I'm sure there's a tutorial somewhere in here showing the flow. In any case, the problem wouldn't be in the admin it would be in the custom template having something FF doesn't like.

Here's a link to some other people complaining:
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/870858

Since it's really a FF problem, googling around until you find the right search terms might solve the problem. Good Luck, sorry I couldn't help.

For anybody that is having this problem.....

Its your cache in Firefox thats messing this up.

Hold shift then left click reload page and it should bypass the cache.
