download button opens Acrobat instead of downloading file

I've read a few people having this problem and like them I'm having to direct customers to right click when they click dload button so they are not left hanging in the acrobat pdf window having to click back button to get back to the store.

Has anyone worked out a fix for this yet please?

I'm using latest zen cart version with free shipping add on and on MAC OS browser safari and firefox

Re: download button opens Acrobat instead of downloading file

Did you zip your file? If you leave it as a pdf then that is what will open. YOu need to zip it

Play with it long enough and you will break it.

Re: download button opens Acrobat instead of downloading file

You do not "need" to zip it. But that's one option, although maybe not entirely the desired end result.

If you are using download-by-redirect then your /pub/.htaccess file can be used to force PDF files to download as binary instead of as an acrobat-recognized file.
In fact, the default install of Zen Cart already allows for this.
But, your hosting company's server might have something installed on it which overrides the .htaccess settings or any other attempts by Zen Cart to set the binary MIME type when serving downloads.
