Search box in Admin not searching in product name?

Hi,
I'm pretty green with Zencart and php programming, but someone else helped me installing the shop version 1.3.9h, and it works generally OK on an external Linux Apache server.

We seem to have an odd bug though: when I'm in the admin section Catalog and try to look for a product title in the search box, nothing shows up, although the product with that name is certainly listed, also searching one word of the title does not bring up the product. Is it possible that the search function does not include searching in the product title, or could there be another bug? To clarify, the search results show results from the product description, but not from the product name.
We don't know in which php file the actual search function is hiding out, so we cannot even check the coding for it.

It should produce results searching on the product title, so there is definitely something wrong. Has it worked previously and now stopped working, or never worked? What do you mean by "external" server?

As far as I can tell, it probably never worked; we may never have noticed it before actually.

With external server, I meant that I do not run the server myself, but use a third-party host, sorry for the confusion.

Would you have any idea in which php file the search function is defined, and what the code should read?

I think it's your_admin_folder/categories.php. No idea what the code should read. One of the real Zenners will have to address that.

I have a similar problem.My products are recognised by an I.D number. I enter the number and the drop down box shows the number but when i click on it for search I just get the message no item.
Were do i go to fix it.
I am hoping there is a simple solution to match my inexperience.

You could customize the file:
/includes/modules/pages/advanced_search_result/header_php.php

and add in your search for your I.D number to the $where_str ...

Example: to search on the products_id you would need to add in something like:

        $where_str .= " OR p.products_id
                          = ':keywords'";

prior to one of the $db->bindVars in there ...
