Re: Advanced Search Question (limit to category box)

Ajeh,

By process of elimination i have discovered where the error was for the advanced search issue i am having - it is in the tpl_Categories file in my_template/sideboxes:yes:

Have you got any ideas at what to change????:wacko:

I have attached the two documents - the one that says moddedforhiddencategories is the one that works fine with advanced search but the categories aren't hidden in the categories sidebox

the other one works fine for hidden but not for the advanced search!!

Your help is much appreciated!

Re: Advanced Search Question (limit to category box)

Can you give any kind of example what is not working?

I do not have this installed any where and unless you can give me a better description on the problem ... you are going to really have someone who uses it or wrote it help you out ...

Re: Advanced Search Question (limit to category box)

gazag:

Hello,

I have a slight error in my store somewhere that i can't figure out - when you go to advanced search the Limit to Category box has one of the categories in it - i would like it to default to All Categories.

Where do i change that?

link to the site is wwwDOTlimelightproductsDOTnet/index.php?main_page=advanced_search

Sorry it is the same problem that started tis thread - see post above! The limit to category in the Search template defaults to the last category not the first (All categories) and a lot of my customers are having trouble with it not working properly!!!

The regular search works fine! but... if you search for something that has no results it brings up the advanced search screen... That also works great....

The problem is most people just type something different in the search box and try searching again and....... The limit to category box defaults to my 'western decor' category (the last on the list) instead of 'all categories' (first on the list) so all my customers keep getting not found when there are products out there!!!

Hope that makes sense?!?!?!?!:unsure:

Re: Advanced Search Question (limit to category box)

Are you trying to get rid of the Advanced Search that you would get if you said to search for:
abc123

If so, why would you want to do that? :unsure:

If I was searching for Apple but wrote in:
Appel

I would get nothing and think you had no Apple ... :lamo:

True i hadn't thought of that! what about disabling/removing the limit by category box altogether!?? Or does that just cause more problems!??

Re: Advanced Search Question (limit to category box)

That would be a real problem with the Advanced Search ...

It would be better to figure out what is really causing the issue on the Advanced Search on the Category dropdown ...

Is there anything to disable the Hidden Categories just to test it without that?

NOTE: I would really turn off the SEO/rewrites while trying to debug everything ...

Ok

Ok

Not that i know off - i could unhide all the hidden menus but that probably wouldn't make a whole lot of difference! I'll try it!

Have done!

Re: Advanced Search Question (limit to category box)

Just to amuse me ... can you turn off your templates and overrides for the file:
/includes/templates/your_template_dir/templates/tpl_advanced_search_default.php

by renaming it:
/includes/templates/your_template_dir/templates/tpl_advanced_search_default.php_TURNED_OFF

and see what happens on the Advanced Search ...

I've done that!

I've already tried that and it doesn't make any difference but maybe you can see something i can't......

Re: Advanced Search Question (limit to category box)

And you are sure that the original file:
/includes/templates/template_default/templates/tpl_advanced_search_default.php

is the original file for v1.3.9h without any changes?

Re: Advanced Search Question (limit to category box)

For more amusing moments ... could you go to the Tools ... Developers Tool Kit ... and in the bottom input box enter:
$sData['categories_id']

and select Catalog ... then click search ... what comes up? :unsure:

Searching 790 files ... for: $sData['categories_id']

/home2/limelih7/public_html/includes/modules/pages/advanced_search/header_php.php

Line #18 : $sData['categories_id'] = (isset($_GET['categories_id']) ? zen_output_string((int)$_GET['categories_id']) : 0);

/home2/limelih7/public_html/includes/templates/template_default/templates/tpl_advanced_search_default.php

Line #33 : <div class="floatLeft"><?php echo zen_draw_pull_down_menu('categories_id', zen_get_categories(array(array('id' => '', 'text' => TEXT_ALL_CATEGORIES)), '0' ,'', '1'), $sData['categories_id']); ?></div>

Re: Advanced Search Question (limit to category box)

Look at your override file:
/home2/limelih7/public_html/includes/templates/your_template_dir/templates/tpl_advanced_search_default.php

and find the line that contains this:
zen_draw_pull_down_menu

What does the code in the 5 lines before it and 5 lines after it read?

Re: Advanced Search Question (limit to category box)

gazag:

OK that doesn't make any difference - i'm pretty sure it must be something to do with HideCategories that i installed it started happening after that!!

But i have no idea where to start looking!!:frusty:

Any help appreciated!
It's not hideCategories.. Though it is entirely possible that you have installed hideCategories incorrectly, what you are reporting is not an issue ANYONE has ever reported having nor is it an issue I have ever had.. I've installed this mod a TON of times..

Latest example of a site with hideCategories installed: http: // clientyourplateormineincshop . overthehillweb .com/advanced-search

As you can see, the issue you are reporting does not occur here.. Not sure what else might be the cause, but I see Linda is on the case, so I KNOW you are in good hands..:clap:

Re: Advanced Search Question (limit to category box)

To put to bed any possible issues being caused by hideCategories, this is the modified section from the hideCategories flavor of that file:

<fieldset>
<legend><?php echo HEADING_SEARCH_CRITERIA; ?></legend>
<div class="forward"><?php echo '<a href="javascript:popupWindow(\'' . zen_href_link(FILENAME_POPUP_SEARCH_HELP) . '\')">' . TEXT_SEARCH_HELP_LINK . '</a>'; ?></div>
<br class="clearBoth" />
    <div class="centeredContent"><?php echo zen_draw_input_field('keyword', $sData['keyword'], 'onfocus="RemoveFormatString(this, \'' . KEYWORD_FORMAT_STRING . '\')"'); ?>   <?php echo zen_draw_checkbox_field('search_in_description', '1', $sData['search_in_description'], 'id="search-in-description"'); ?><label class="checkboxLabel" for="search-in-description"><?php echo TEXT_SEARCH_IN_DESCRIPTION; ?></label></div>
<br class="clearBoth" />
</fieldset>

<fieldset class="floatingBox back">
    <legend><?php echo ENTRY_CATEGORIES; ?></legend>
    <div class="floatLeft"><?php echo zen_draw_pull_down_menu('categories_id', HC_get_categories(array(array('id' => '', 'text' => TEXT_ALL_CATEGORIES)), '0' ,'', '1'), $sData['categories_id']);//hideCategories  echo zen_draw_pull_down_menu('categories_id', zen_get_categories(array(array('id' => '', 'text' => TEXT_ALL_CATEGORIES)), '0' ,'', '1'), $sData['categories_id']); ?></div>
<?php echo zen_draw_checkbox_field('inc_subcat', '1', $sData['inc_subcat'], 'id="inc-subcat"'); ?><label class="checkboxLabel" for="inc-subcat"><?php echo ENTRY_INCLUDE_SUBCATEGORIES; ?></label>
<br class="clearBoth" />
</fieldset>

<fieldset class="floatingBox forward">
    <legend><?php echo ENTRY_MANUFACTURERS; ?></legend>
    <?php echo zen_draw_pull_down_menu('manufacturers_id', zen_get_manufacturers(array(array('id' => '', 'text' => TEXT_ALL_MANUFACTURERS)), PRODUCTS_MANUFACTURERS_STATUS), $sData['manufacturers_id']); ?>
<br class="clearBoth" />
</fieldset>
