Why can't I add a banner_box or featured in the left sidebox?

I'm new to the zen cart schema so i'll be on here often.

I'm working from the admin panel in Tools / Layout Box Controller.

I've checked sideboxes/featured.php. Seetings look like:
LEFT/RIGHT COLUMN - On
LEFT or RIGHT Column - left
Sort Order - 10
SINGLE COLUMN - 0
SINGLE COLUMN Status - On

These are the same setting for the sideboxes/categories.php (which is showing up on the page).

I know this seems pretty stupid but I'm pulling my hair out.

Thanks

Do you actually have any products set as Featured ? Some sideboxes won't display unless there's content for them.

Re: Why can't I add a banner_box or featured in the left sidebox?

instead of posting a new thread, I'll throw in another question for you.

How do I add div boxes to the mainWrapper (zen cart body) via the Admin? Just looking to add static placeholders for product ads etc. Should I hard code that into the tpl_main_page.php or define_main_page.php?

I'm thinking of just throwing the HTML in there and adding styles to the css, my only hesitation would be that I don't want to break the functionality of the admin panel.

I'm a little green.

If I understand the question, you want to add your HTML to define_main_page.php, either manually or by using Admin - Tools - Define Pages Editor.

If you want an HTML editor there, you'll need to install this:

http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&products_id=1626

i have dreamweaver. sorry that was a poorly constructed question. I've figured it out. I've got some of the noobie gitters here. I appreciate the patience while I pollute the forums with questions that have been answered in the past.

Most here recommend you don't use Dreamweaver (or any other WYSIWYG editor) when editing PHP files.

I'm not using the wysiwyg. I'm using the code view for everything and mostly using dw for ftp.

Although, I understand why wysiwyg (design view) is looked down on.

I'm going to move things back to the forum.

You want to insert your code into tpl_index.php. I inserted this (the red part) into that file after the statement you see here:

<?php if ($show_display_category->fields['configuration_key'] == 'SHOW_PRODUCT_INFO_MAIN_SPECIALS_PRODUCTS') { ?>

<div id="test"> testeroo </div>

and you can see the result at http: //www.stevesh.org/demo

awesome!

i think mine is named:* tpl_index_default.php*
Located in:* includes/templates/MY_TEMPLATE/templates/*

this would also pertain to category (tpl_index_categories) and product pages tol_product_info_display)?

meaning I'm going to have to customize those pages as well.

I owe you a beer stevesh

My mistake - tpl_index_default.php.

You'll have to edit the other files if you want your content to show on those pages too, yes.
