How do I back up my files and database?

How do I back up my files and database?

Hate to ask, seems like this is a basic procedure that I should know and yet I don't. I use Filezilla for my work. So do I download my cart, all the files, etc., and save to a "backup" folder? My database, I really don't understand much about that, I set it up on my hosting control panel at fat cow. Do I just make a copy and call it "back up"?

Backup the files using FTP to copy them from the server to your PC for safekeeping.
