UPS double charging for items less than 1 pound

I understand that UPS has minimum weight charge of 1 pound but how does one get around UPS charging double for 2 items that are 1/2 pound each? The items are going to be shipped in one box resulting in 1 pound but the customer is getting charged shipping for 2 pounds.

My store has products ranging in weight of 4 ounces to 30 pounds and everything is working great except for these items that are less than 1 pound.

Hasn't anyone had to deal with this issue of items weighing less than 1 pound double charging? Should I contact UPS directly?

By the way, I'm not using the Add-on UPS, just the standard UPS that comes with Zen-Cart so not sure why my post got moved to add-ons.

UPS rounds weights up to the next pound ... so a weight of 0.0625 would be 1 lb ...

If it is more than 1 lb, then check your settings in the Configuration ... Shipping/Packaging ... and turn off the Tare Rates by setting them to 0:0 ...

Possibly you could read my initial question again. I thought the tare weight was to adjust for packaging. That's not my problem. If we sell 2 items weighing 1/2 pound, UPS will charge for 2 pounds even though the items are shipped in same box that will weigh only 1 pound (plus a little for packaging). We could, for example, be selling ten 1/2 pound items and still get them in the same box that would weigh only 5 pounds but being charged for 10 pounds.

If you put 10 0.5 lb products in 1 box vs 10 0.5 lb boxes you will have different charges ...

What are you expecting to happen on the charges?

Are you trying to get it to know when your 10 x 0.5lbs is 10 boxes or 1?

We want to put 10 x .5lb products in 1 box. Total weight of box would be 5 lbs. (disregarding the tare for the packaging for this example)

So 10 x .5 on a product would give a 5lb quote from UPS of:

What are you wanting to get on the quote?

I just talked to the client and he said that shipping sounds high to him but it would depend on what zone it's being shipped to.

He also informed me he was having just as much problem with 3 lb and 4 lb products as he was the less than 1 pound products so he is opting to just charge a flat rate shipping for 1 item and the customer will have to call if they want to purchase multiple products. Not very efficient but he's a small shop.

Realizing this is another topic but hope it will be a short answer - if I add Flat Rate as a shipping option, it's going to add it as an option to all items isn't it? Client only wants this on one category.

Check your Configuration ... Shipping/Packaging ... for the Tare Rates to see if you are adding weight to the orders ...

If you want a Flat Rate falt for just one category ... does that mean when that 1 Category is the only Product(s) in the cart?

Does the Flat Rate stay the same if there are 3 Products from that 1 Category or quantity 3 of a Product from that 1 Category?

What happens on a mixed Cart of products from that 1 category and Products from other categories?

You could customize the code to use one shipping module if all Products are from 1 category ... and/or customize the UPS to manage that 1 Category differently when in a mixed cart ...

Thanks for your in depth questions to clarify my needs. I did a work around on the flat rate according to the client's wishes. If he decides this isn't working for him, I will have to come back and address your questions to get to a solution.
