Protuct Type music/general

Hi, I am using: v1.3.9h
I am completely stressed out. :shocking:
We bought this store with zen cart from someone as part of a business deal. He showed us how to add new products and so on, as we had never used zen cart before. I have become more comfortable with zencart since that. I have realized that when he showed us how to add a new product, he did not have me select "product - music" but instead had me keep it "product - general" I have added about 80 products & realized, I need them entered in as music, so I can have the "music genre" option.
Is there any way to switch them all over to "products - music" or will I have to re-enter each one as a new product?

Thank You

Re: Protuct Type music/general

Thank you!
That thread sent me to this thread: http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=140489
I am still confussed by the responses. It seems like at first it is saying how to do it, then it seem it say that it is not safe to do for music.
I'm sorry, I am confussed what the right thing to do is........

Re: Protuct Type music/general

Changing to a Music Product type is very difficult as Product - Music uses additional tables compared to the other Product Types ...

Just changing the products_type to the value for the Product - Music is not the only thing to update ...

The table product_music_extra needs to be populated with 1 record per products_id ...

Re: Protuct Type music/general

If I wrote this right, this may work for you ...

Turn ALL products to products music

BACKUP DATABASE FIRST ...

UPDATE products SET products_type = 2;
insert into product_music_extra (products_id)
select products_id
from products where products_type = 2 and products_id not in (
select products_id
 from product_music_extra);

NOTE: if you are NOT trying to update ALL Products to be Product Music ... do not do this ...

Re: Protuct Type music/general

Ok, I tried that, All of my products are still in the store, and on my product list in the zen cart. However, whenever I click to edit a CD, it opens a new page, like when you enter a new product. There is no way to edit any of the old products.

Any suggestions?

Re: Protuct Type music/general

I am not following you ...

Do you have an URL to your site where we can see these products on the Customer side?

Re: Protuct Type music/general

Yeah, I can give you the link to the store, but I have it "down for maintenance", but I can turn it on if you need to see it. (let me know)
I put the SQL code in & my store looks exactly the same. which is good, I didn't want it to change. I wanted to change all my products over to "music" so that I could include genres for each of the listings.
After putting the code in, when I go to catalog_Categories/Products then I click on the folder for CD's, then when I try to edit an item it opens the screen, but it is a blank form, like when you go to enter a new item. none of the information is showing up, when I try to edit it. (not even the title or anything) But I know the information is still somewhere because it is in my store.
Does this make sense?

Re: Protuct Type music/general

oh, when I click to edit
under "Product Master Category:"
there is a drop down box, it is automatically filled in as "Invalid Master Category ID" With two drop down options (as most of the products were linked)

Re: Protuct Type music/general

Look in your Catalog ... Product Types ... and see what the values are for Product - Music if you click on that and hit EDIT ...

Also look in the URL and see what the ptID= reads in the URL ...

What happens if you put the Product in a valid Category for the Master Category?

Ok, I did that, I clicked edit & checked the values, almost everything is "1"
Should I be checking for something specific?

I'm not sure what you mean or where to look for the URL & the ptID................

I'm sorry, I really appreciate your help!

Re: Protuct Type music/general

Go to the Catalog ... Product Types ...

Click on Product - Music ...

Click on EDIT ...

What do you see set for:

Product Type Name:

Handler Page:

Before you hit Cancel ... look at the URL ... you should see something like:
/your_admin/product_types.php?page=1&ptID=2&action=edit

Do you see what I posted in RED? What does it read on your URL?

I tried changing it to a valid category, but all the fields are still blank, I clicked on preview, just to see what happens & it just previews a blank page

Re: Protuct Type music/general

Could you look in phpMyAdmin and browse your table:
products

are all of the Products set to 2 for the:
products_type

field in the database?

Then, can you browse the table:
product_music_extra

does it appear that ALL of your products_id are in there?

Re: Protuct Type music/general

It's on a go daddy standard shared server, to view files I can use a Go Daddy FTP file manager. Would that work?

Re: Protuct Type music/general

just a note, after I click to edit an item the URL reads (when the blank form is there):
..................adminurrhtcqq/product_music.php?action=new_product&cPath=1&pID=26&product_type=2

seems like it's reading it as a new product, right?

Re: Protuct Type music/general

No it is reading like an EDIT ...

Editing reads:
/your_admin_dir/product_music.php?page=1&product_type=2&cPath=68&pID=257&action=new_product

New reads:
/your_admin_dir/product_music.php?x=16&y=13&product_type=2&cPath=68&action=new_product

When you EDIT do you now see the settings for:

Recording Artist:
Record Company:
Music Genre:

If you have set those up, then they will have dropdowns on them ...

Re: Protuct Type music/general

Yes, the drop down boxes are there. (so it did make some sort of switch) It just isn't transferring any of the product info. Not the title, the price, description, pic, :(
