How to bulk add Option Values?

I am on ver 1.3.9h

I have looked all over to find this. I need to add a large amount of attributes. ie I want my customer to be able to pick a graphic to add to be printed on the product. I have 400+ graphics to choose from all with different names. There has to be a more efficient way to add these than Option > Value Manager This will take quite a bit of time.

Thanks.

Re: How to bulk add Option Values?

I can't tell if this question is hard, or if it is just too stupid to respond to. I can take it either way.

The only stupid questions are those that aren't asked. Besides, you didn't actually ask a question, you merely made a statement. :wink2:

Anyway, in response to the statement, there isn't a 'more efficient' way to do what you require using currently available methods (at least none that I know of).

I have no doubt that code could be written that would/could make it more efficient, but how hard** that** would be is an entirely different question. I suspect it would be require skills beyond novice level.

Cheers

Thanks Rod, I thought the Forum Title "How to bulk add Option Values?" acted like a question.

Your response, may be true, and is a little discouraging if so. I have looked at a number of Mods, but they do not seem to address this.

Re: How to bulk add Option Values?

If they are the same Option Names and Option Values, you can make 1 Product with the Attributes then use the Copy to Product or Copy to Category to copy the Attributes to another Product or Product(s) in the Attributes Controller ...

Re: How to bulk add Option Values?

Thanks, Linda.

So I would need to manually add all of them.

Re: How to bulk add Option Values?

In order to use the Copy features to 1 Product or 1 Category of Products, you would need to add them all 1 time to put in the correct information ...

If you did not have images or prices on them, then you could add 1 Option Value to the Option Name on the Product and then update that Option Name to have all Option Values added to it on all Products that use that Option Name ...

Re: How to bulk add Option Values?

We have (some years ago) bulk-added option values using a SQL patch. If I can dig it out I will post it here. (It was compiled in MSExcel as a spreadsheet first).

But... if you intend to add all 400 options to every product, you are just going to overwhelm your (potential) customers.

You should rather categorise your images (ie: options) into THEMES or subjects, and then have maybe 20 such themes, each containing about 20 options.

This is much more manageable for your customers. People will not enjoy scrolling through 400 thumbnails tring to fathom out firstly what they are, and secondly having to make a choice.

Re: How to bulk add Option Values?

Thanks for the feedback. As clarification, the options are selecting a print design. ie one of our many graphics. They have already decided on the graphic before they get to this point, and just need to let us know which one.
