Coupon Deletions by Manufacturer's Wreaking Havoc On Sales Report

Our "Subcontractors" have deleted products which created a payroll nightmare which we spent hours trying to investigate the cause and now have found that there is an issue with deleting old coupons as well.

The sales reports are now inaccurate and it seems that if you don't keep every recorded transaction/or store action there is an effect of altering all accounting.

We have subcontractors that are no longer with our store, if we delete them, will their sales also be deleted? Same for a product? If it's deleted from the store, do the sales associated with it also get deleted?

Please advise as to a preventative measure to address this issue.

The deletion of Products has nothing to do with existing Orders ...

Orders hold all of their information in the orders tables and deleting a Product will not change any reports based on orders unless you write them to first check if Products exist and make exceptions of some sort for them ...

As to the deleting of subcontractors and the relationship to orders, again it depends on how you set up your deletions ... if you are using manufacturers for this, again no relationship to the orders as the orders do not store the manufacturers in them on the orders_products so to make exclusions for missing manufacturers you would have to write your reports to check if the Products in the orders exist and if the manufacturers for the Products exist ...

Example: if you have an Order with 7 Products in them:
1 you would need to check if the Products still exist

2 you would need to check if the manufacturers for the Products exist

if you are trying to generate reports on Orders based on current Products and current manufacturers as some of the Products will be current and others may have been deleted ...

How are sales reports effected by deletion of manufacturer's/Subcontractors, products and coupons?

For example,

Sales report shows $100.00 in sales on 2/10/11, then a coupon that was used for $2.00 is deleted and we run the same report on 2/12 after the deletion - now the sales report shows $102.00 in sales.

Same issue with deleting a product from a Subcontractors individual store area, originally the sales for that product are reported correctly in the sales report, but once that product is deleted, all sales associated with it are uncategorized. Unbeknown to us that the Subcontractor had deleted the product, when we later run a sales report for payroll, payroll longer reflects the amount paid to them and tells us that we have now overpaid that Subcontractor.

What Report are you using for this? :unsure:
