Most of us aren't familiar with how that template is styled, so seeing it live would help. We need to see whether there is a background color or an image that needs to be changed, and which element to change it for.

Re: Changing template backgroung color ?

body {
margin: 0;
font-family: verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;
font-size: 75%;
font-weight: bold;
color: white;
background-image: url(../images/shadow.gif);
background-repeat: repeat-y;
background-position: top center;
background-color: #5E5D57;
}

The best way to learn is to try stuff. But, back it up first.

Re: Changing template backgroung color ?

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I not really having a display problem. Just wish to change the colors.
Here is a link to to login page. You can see the color scheme with darker color grays I wish to change it to lighter colors of gray and white.

http://devilslakeyachtclub.com/DLYC/DLYCcart/index.php?main_page=login

I thought it would be on the CSS page with in that template. I have edited and removed all of the dark grays on that page but still no change in the over all color.

Re: Changing template backgroung color ?

As Resco pointed out, all that gray is done with an image named shadow.gif.

You can remove that from the body rule in the stylesheet and then add background-colr statements where you want to change things.

Re: Changing template backgroung color ?

HI RescoCCC,
I changed this line from 5E5D57 to
background-color: #E6E6E6; which is a very light shade of gray all most white and it still does not change the over all color.
The line that refers to the shadow image in viewing it in Adobe Fireworks it show a line on it and over all a lighter gray than the color displayed on the pages. I too thought that changing the line background-color: #E6E6E6; would take care of the color. What I get for thinking. :laugh:
Thanks, Mark

Re: Changing template backgroung color ?

The background image goes on top of any background color and hides it. You need to delete this

background-image: url(../images/shadow.gif);

And without having looked at the image by itself, I expect it is 1 pixel high and 1000 pixels wide, or something like that. It would look like a line in a graphics editing program.

Re: Changing template backgroung color ?

Hey Stevesh,
How you been? Well I hope. So they are able to get that dark shade of gray off the image file? It is so much lighter than the color that appears in the Zen-cast pages How are they getting it that way?
I removed the shadow image line and that does the trick for the dark colors but I still wonder how they were getting the different shades with a single color image file. I will play with the color setting in the CSS again now that the gray shadow is gone. Thank you all for the help. I will trod on.
I will put this out their also If I need to open a new post for it just say so. I notice this template uses a number of different fonts. Can I use just Times New Roman for everything?
Thanks again guys.
Mark

Re: Changing template backgroung color ?

Hi GJH42,
Thanks, So they are taking that line and having it repeat itself over and over till it fills the page Correct? And with the rest of the CSS settings is how they produce the different shades of gray? Slick trick I will have to try that.
Thanks again for the reply.

Re: Changing template backgroung color ?

The "line" is an image with all of the different shades in it. CSS will automatically repeat a background image to fill the container unless told otherwise.

Re: Changing template backgroung color ?

Hi GJH42,
Thanks again for the reply. I see on the background shading very slick way of doing this. Once I removed the shadow image line I was able to get the lighter color I was looking for. Perhaps you can answer this for me.
I notice this template uses a number of different fonts. Can I use just Times New Roman for everything? Can I just type Times New Roman once in place of all the other fonts listed on a line?
Thanks,
Mark :smile:

Re: Changing template backgroung color ?

You can do a search in your stylesheet for font and paste in 'Times New Roman' wherever a font list appears. You should technically use a list of fonts with fallback options, but as Times New Roman is such a ubiquitous font, you will most likely be safe.

I have version 1.5 and I can't seem to find what I need to
change background color. Doesn't appear to be the same as 1.3

Re: Changing template backgroung color ?

We can't advise you without seeing your site with whatever template you have active.
There are no inherent differences between v1.3.x and v1.5.0 in styling.
